(7,383 posts)"Someone Else" means another candidate not listed.
question everything
(47,476 posts)In the Iowa Caucus of 1976, uncommitted won 14,508 votes (37%) to Carter's 10,764 votes (27%). And the rest, as they say, is history.

(7,383 posts)not to choose one in a straw poll.
ProudLib72
(17,984 posts)I suppose it makes no difference now. What concerns me is whether or not they can get behind the candidate (whoever it may be) in the general. We can't afford any sour grapes people.

(10,721 posts)And that's reasonable this far out from the campaign.
But it's also fair to say that list isn't comprehensive. There are potential candidates who are not included.

(17,984 posts)We play flavor of the week here on DU constantly. It's obvious that we don't even know. What I worry about is our candidate being demonized (again) and there being a lot of people who sit out the general. We really need to focus on cleaning up social media beforehand.

(10,721 posts)There's strength in numbers, and if people want certain Democrats to move further left, we need more Democrats in office. The bigger our majority, the more free Democrats will feel to push for greater reform. Demonizing Democrats is self-defeating.
I know I'm not saying anything you don't already know, but some don't seem to get that.

(17,984 posts)I'm thinking mainly of FB and Twitter. What gets me is that we have so little time before the next election, and only now are people beginning to wise up to the evils that lurk on social media.

(12,344 posts)Takes all the positions 50% or more of Democrats agree on and is against all positions that poll 49% or less. He is best known for championing popular causes, although his opponents have accused him flip-flopping. In a tight race, he defeated his opponent, Other One, by 1 vote. Else's campaign slogan was "A man for all the people, except the bad ones." His running mate, Don't Know, could not be reach for comment.

(10,721 posts)Polls at this juncture are all about name recognition. And keep in mind that Ron Paul used to do great in straw polls.

(31,261 posts)My guess, maybe 10 coming into Iowa, 4 or 5 leaving to move on to New Hampshire. My guess in the end it will be a generational race, Beto versus Joe, with Joe winning a standing 8 count over the kid in the 12th. I can easily see a Joe/Beto or Joe/Kamala ticket.

(6,474 posts)I was a big supporter of Beto in Texas and he dragged at least 2-3 US Representatives over the line even if he did lose-quite an accomplishment
But I want to see them fight it out-I applaud everyone willing to take up the challenge. I'm going to sit back and watch and wait to see who is the best candidate. Sometimes the crème of the crop becomes evident only after the start of the primary season
With that said Tulsi Gabbert is a BIG NO and Kirsten Gillebrand has 2 strikes against her

(10,500 posts)I am glad they did not include her. Move On is not exactly her crowd. She would not have done very well, at which point the media would have gone out and spun it as some kind of humiliating rejection of her. I am glad that they missed an opportunity to abuse her again.

(15,398 posts)Her "not running" was not definite.

(10,500 posts)And I think she has earned a break from all the abuse she has been subjected to.

(10,721 posts)...nominating a mayor or celebrity billionaire is in the offing--for the sane political party. Because mayors (or former mayors) and celebrity billionaires make up about a third of that list.
And several others, including Sanders, have no chance.
