Upstate judge resigns for making homophobic remarks
Town judge made oral sex gesture to attorney

A town court justice in Jefferson County has resigned as he was being investigated for allegedly making homophobic remarks and gestures to an attorney, according to the state Commission on Judicial Conduct.

The commission's formal complaint against the LeRay town justice stems from a January 2017 incident at the Jefferson County Complex, where he was speaking with an attorney promoting a film festival honoring actor Viggo Mortensen.

"You and Viggo Mortensen should get a hotel room and suck each other's (expletive)," Hallett told the attorney, according to the complaint.

Five months later, the complaint alleges, he made a gesture connoting oral sex to the same attorney.

Even so, no excuse for homophobic remarks by anyone. Getting canned...good, this piece of garbage doesn't belong in such a position making obnoxious comments.

5. The problem isn't that the remark was homophopic

If he had made a similar comment to anyone, regardless of gender, he should be run out of there.
