will be his first pardon? Starting today that is. Adding here. Does anyone here think Mueller has any proof that Rump discussed with ANYONE about his pardoning anyone? Just curious

(14,966 posts)White House Counsel's office would know they are putting themselves in harms way by participating in giving a pardon for a corrupt purpose -- and Trump's purposes are openly corrupt. It's not a slam-dunk that they'd face consequences, but it is possible. Do they really want to take that risk?

(15,751 posts)The first pardon would be to again test the waters, as he did with Sheriff Arpaio?. Then someone with big public support - and if he listens to his JonesDay lawyers, someone with a good case for a pardon.

Would he commute Cohen's sentence just to rub his nose in it?

Trump is not mentally well.
Trump is guilty.
Trump is impulsive.
Trump, desperate under increasing pressure, will probably lose it and lash out.
At the moment, they do not have enough in the public domain to get the GOP to impeach him.
If he can fire Mueller, he can cause disarray there and it could buy him some time.
With that time, he could try to haggle a departure with a pardon for himself and his family. He'd have negotiating time because the GOP will not impeach unless it is a slam dunk case - which they do not have yet.
I do not see Trump sitting on his hands, indictment after indictment, as they move in closer and closer to him and doing nothing.
