Pacific Life announced on Friday that it was pausing ads on Tucker Carlsons Fox News show after the host made a controversial remark about immigration.
On Thursday, Carlson said that immigrants are making America dirtier prompting fierce backlash online.
Our leaders demand that you shut up and accept this, Carlson opined at the top of his show. We have a moral obligation to admit the worlds poor, they tell us, even if it makes our own country poorer, and dirtier, and more divided. Immigration is a form of atonement.
In response, people took to Twitter to call for a Fox boycott, prompting Pacific Life to respond by saying that while their ads appeared on Thursday nights show, they would no longer appear until the company could re-evaluate their relationship with his program.

Fox News also issued a statement blaming leftists for stifling free speech.
It is a shame that left-wing advocacy groups, under the guise of being supposed media watchdogs, weaponize social media against companies in an effort to stifle free speech, the fiery statement read. We continue to stand by and work with our advertisers through these unfortunate and unnecessary distractions.

their advertising. It isnt just nebulous good public relations, its because Tucker's comments are a threat to their bottom line.
I wonder if Tucker has a clue that people of other races and other ethnicities buy insurance and other financial products? Or if Pacific Life has glommed onto the fact that they need a wider customer base than bigoted white folks? Or that Pacific Life has noted that regardless of skin color, gender, or ethnicity, money is green? Judging by his response, Id say he hasnt.
I can think of yet another reason not to advertise with people purveying racism. They look stupid. And looking stupid is definitely bad for business.

(65,021 posts)Citzens' United says money is speech but according to Faux, the public choosing not to spend their money on an advertiser for political reasons abridges free speech?
That's utterly ridiculous!
Not that we should be surprised! Faux & ridiculous are practically synonyms
