(23,542 posts)I think the repubs would have no choice but to impeach.
However, if people are more interested in their video games and others continue to watch fox news interpretation of what is going on we will be screwed.

(7,947 posts)they'll probably find a way to get him to resign.
It's not like most GOP officeholders are loyal to him. Once they decide he's more trouble than he's worth, they'll jettison him. I'm not sure what it will take to get them to that point. I was just reminded of some horrific scandal (the Saudis spending all that money at Trump DC) that was talked about a week ago, and it sunk without a blip into the NEXT horrific scandal.
I think Trump's absolute arrogance-- "I can do whatever I want"-- is an amazing defense. The GOP kind of shrugs.
But there's a point where they're going to decide he's going to cost them the senate too in 2020. I think it's going to be about another 5 months. If Mueller indicts Donnie Jr or Jared (or Ivanka! Yay!), and Trump pardons them... who knows what the GOP will decide.
Really, what are they waiting for? None of them like him. (Nah, Lindsey's spittle-flecked love notes don't seem so sincere.) His "base" is going to turn on them in the primaries anyway, no matter what. So why stick with him and have to go home and look at their millennial kids across the dinner table and see the utter contempt in their eyes and know you deserve it?
The self-loathing would be enough of a reason to jettison Trump, I'd think.

There is a herd mentality aspect that is in play too. Part of his strategy was scorched-earth destruction of opponents in the Repub party, figuring the party leaders and candidates would fall in line. So the precedent is there, if one of them decides they can play the same game in the name of their own power
