After watching Susan Collins on Sunday Talk today - it cements my opinion

that she is a selfish full-on GOP POS that is afraid of getting primary-ed.

The Individual Mandate hurts families making less that $50K?

Really?

If they make less than $50 k, they are eligible for very generous subsidies under the ACA.

The fact that she seems to wobble in the run up to big votes has earned her an ill- begotten title of moderate.

She never votes against her party, sometimes she's the only Republican who questions the sanity of these votes aloud, as every other R talks in one voice with the exact same words.

But in the end she a party hack.

I made around 20k/year and I can say this, the ACA was a Godsend to me and my wife. As a self employed photographer I and my wife went on the ACA as soon as I could. It covered my wife as well and she was 58 and I, 61. We had not had ANY health coverage in over ten years. It simply was unaffordable because of our ages and at our ages just about everything is pre existing so it would have been astronomically expensive, that if we could even find an insurer. Both my knees had deteriorated from years of working on my feet hauling gear around so much they both were bone on bone and I was virtually unable to work anymore because of the pain. With the ACA I was able to get both knees replaced and I can now still work.....oh, and pay taxes now as well. I just went on Medicare this past September but my wife remains on the ACA. It will cost me $35.00/mo to cover her with a silver plan.

Susan Collins is either a lying bitch or she has no idea how it is actually helping millions of people get medical care that they otherwise could not afford. From listening to her speak I suspect it is the latter because I believe she doesn't have a clue about anything she votes on.

I know back when the Democrats were trying to pass the ACA and the repubs were screaming about death panels and killing grand ma. The truth is the republicans are the death panels and they are the ones killing grand ma.

I have never voted for a republican in my life. Locally there is one that is really a nice guy and I think will be an ethical member of our city council however I will not vote for him. I cannot vote for any republican EVER knowing what their party has done to the people of this country. Their greed in astounding and it never seems to be enough for them.

I also need to mention I'm in Florida and the state did not accept the Medicaid expansion. The insurance was more expensive but than those in states that did but it still wasn't crazy expensive.

I was without insurance for 6 months and tried to go on the ACA. I earned $ 41,000 and my premiums were going to be around $450.00. I was not offered any type of subsidy by the ACA whatsoever. My previous employee insurance plan was 300, which I was just able to do, but there was no way I could could do 450, s0 I went without for six months. I had changed jobs and I contacted my new employer after my 90 days, to sign up for the insurance plan. I work from home in AZ, and was employed by a company in California. They ignored my requests, repeatedly. I sent emails, and phone calls sometimes 2-3 times a month - all ignored. Finally when their open enrollment came around , I was able to get the insurance, but only needed it by that time for 3 months, because thankfully was able to get my Medicare in September, and FINALLY have decent insurance.

I knew I made too much for the Medicaid part, but I really thought it would be closer to what I paid with employer health insurance. Luckily before I left my other job I had a 3 month backup supply of my medication, as I have asthma, and the Advair inhaler alone out of pocket would have been a killer. The last day before my insurance ended, I was in the ER with a 10-mm kidney stone and was supposed to see a nephrologist, but I knew that was not going to happen, (have a history of kidney stones, many many times). They told me it was 10 mm, and probably could not pass it. I check the Internet and it said about 10% can pass this. Well, thank God, I was able to, though it was not pretty. it would have been thousands of dollars in bills for cystoscopies, lithotripsies and stents. There was no way I was going to go bankrupt over a damn kidney stone. Somebody was watching over me, and now all is well. I am so happy to have Medicare. We should all be so lucky to have decent insurance.

This is one of the major problems with both how the ACA was written and how it was covered by the media. The truth of the matter is that people were eligible for the subsidies if they made less than a defined amount and their employers did not offer coverage. I emphasize the 'and' because that's where the real problem was. It should have been an 'or'.

Given that language, people who clearly should have been eligible for the subsidies were not, purely because their employer did offer coverage of some kind. I examined this closely with a friend of mine who made less than the threshold, but was not eligible for subsidies because coverage was available from his employer. To exacerbate the problem, the coverage that was available through his employer was nearly double the cost of comparable coverage on the exchanges. Add to that sort of scenario people not adequately understanding that they could buy the cheaper coverage through the exchange even without the subsidies, and you start to see how easily they were able to game the system so that large numbers of people felt pain the law was explicitly crafted to try to prevent.

Perhaps the most serious way in which the media dropped the ball on the ACA was in not informing people honestly of what were brazen, blatant acts of sabotage taken solely for political gain. And as a result, there are lots of people who think they were screwed by the law, when the truth is that they were screwed by the sabotage of the law.

I know my daughter covered her kids on the ACA because to add them to her employer insurance her premium would have been about 1000 a month. With her alone her premium is under 300. She she got them on the ACA both for 300 a month, saving her money and she was still able to get the subsidies. However, when the oldest turned 18 and got his own policy, she was no longer eligible for the subsidy as she only had 1 child on insurance, and now it is 300 for the one child instead of 2. We definitely need a better system that what we have.

Susan Collins was a 'right time, right place' candidate...

She was in a three person primary race and so far back she could not even see the other two candidates' tail lights.

The millionaire candidate sponsored an investigation of the evangelist candidate who got run out of a southern state because he was boinking his twelve year old babysitter.

The millionaire denied his involvement but the public turned against both him and the evangelist, leaving Susan Collins as the sole remaining candidate.
