From a compassionate and brilliant man to a hate filled idiot.

I’m still in shock over the election. I won’t make any comparisons between Clinton and Obama but Clinton is brilliant in her own right, one of the most fierce fighters out there, one of the most qualified persons to ever run for President, and has a very long history of fighting for others. She was a great person to follow Obama.

I’m still in a bit of shock over the election itself.

We went from this...

I still believe that we have a much greater abundance of riches than the alternative. We did win the midterms after all. The American people are a good, decent and generous people. Sometimes they can be fooled, but they always correct the mistakes.

And Obama was legitimately elected, twice. It's only the republicans that seem to need to cheat, steal, and gerrymander to stay in office.

that the American people actually allowed someone like Trumpy to ascend to the highest position in government. It isn't as if he was a complete unknown, either. Michael Bloomberg knew what kind of man he was and said so long before the election. Hundreds of others knew as well. The stories of him being a total asshole were legion.

The fact that Donald Trump ever made it to the presidency should give this country pause. We need to make sure nothing like this is ever allowed to happen again.

that he did not win New York in the general election.

Many in the rest of the country fell victim to the glitzy but phony propaganda of the reality TV show, "The Apprentice" that falsely portrayed trump as a brilliant business mogul.

He benefited greatly from that portrayal but the country suffered and still does from that misinformation foisted upon it.

I have my own opinions, but I'm a foreigner and not really entitled to wade in with criticism of another country's systems. I became a student of US politics simply because I have always lived in a parliamentary system and wanted to understand the differences.

When Trump became the nominee I was gobsmacked; doesn't the party have standards? We don't have a primary system, but thinking it through, yes - it's democratic, but jeez.....

Obama, on his final trip to Australia pointed out three things that the US could take from us:
1. Universal health care
2. Restrictions on guns
3. Compulsory voting

In my opinion, compulsory voting would go a long way towards fixing your electoral system. That and a country-wide electoral commision that oversaw all elections at every level to ensure fairness and inclusion.

It's not impossible.

Is that one of the two parties is called The Democratic Party and the other is anti democracy.

Conservative political ideology CAN NOT WIN in this country unless it cheats and/or is dishonest, plain and simple and they are damned good at it.

They have convinced a large segment of the population that giving rich people more riches is the right thing to do and will work out for the better.

Of the right side of politics worldwide, but the pendulum eventually swings back and things balance out.

Why are they so fucking rabid, deceitful, and dirty in the US compared to other western democracies?

Les Moonves, formerly of CBS, said that covering the Trump show was a ratings bonanza and meant more money in his pocket. Any negative fallout from Trump's obvious shortcomings wouldn't be visited on his wealthy station. It was obvious to anyone who cares about the country that the media weren't going to act responsibly in the 2016 election. Moonves was just the most up front about it. Andrew Card at NBC also voiced similar sentiments, that reining in their coverage of Trump and subjecting him to fact checking like anyone else wasn't going to happen.

free easy alternative.

it's the difference maker because we do nothing about it - it works outside the free speech spectrum and makes it look like bush and trump are acceptable candidates

the MSM has been cowed and pushed and policed by the biggest political correctness cops on the planet - a few hundred coordinated lying jerks on 1500 coordinated radio stations - for 30 years.

get rid of that democracy-killer and media reform will be a lot easier

until then we can't have any fact based national discussion on any issue

But let us not despair. It is truly always darkest before the dawn, and the Mueller investigation is going to shine some very bright light indeed on the Republican Party, Trump, his administration, the Trump family business and Trump's family. Becoming president was the worst thing ever to happen to Trump because from this point on, he will have nothing but scandal, civil suits and criminal charges over his many, many indiscretions and criminal acts.

And, Weeki, have you ever seen so many Americans actually waking up?

No, the dialog has changed. We've got some absolutely wonderful people in Congress, we turned a bunch of states completely blue, including my state.

Our species, Weeki, is in a race with its own shadow self. Will we grow up, realize we are all hurtling through space on this one precious, sacred planet we call Earth, and unite to make decisions that truly organize us around environmental, social and economic justice? Or will the short-term Wall Street greed end with our extinction?

I must believe the former, and that we will feel joy again. And hope. Obama was a hope-monger. Let us be hope-mongers too.

The sad truth is too many Americans would rather have an inexperienced, mobbed-up con artist as a president because he's a white man. It keeps their belief system intact.
