Snip:
Then Sullivan started absolutely tearing into Flynn for his offenses.
You were an unregistered agent of a foreign country while serving as the national security adviser to the president of the United States! Sullivan fumed. Arguably, this undermines everything this flag over here stands for! Arguably, you sold your country out!
Sullivan continued by saying, Im not hiding my disgust, my disdain for this criminal offense.

(10,252 posts)Flynn was working on a deal with Russia to build nuclear reactors, funded with Saudi money, all over the Middle East. I'm sure Trump was rubbing his greedy hands together with the prospect of scamming cash off the top of that. Gee, what could possibly go wrong?
Think about that for a while.
Meanwhile, back at the GOP senate, GOP senators like Tom Cotton are foaming at the mouth about Iran's nuclear deal for peaceful applications.

Actually, Gen. Flynn, what you've done is 1,000,000 times worse than anything Sec. Clinton ever did.
So, yeah, you should be in jail today. Let's get this party started!

(2,008 posts)Flynn was trying to play both sides. Cooperate to get a lighter sentence, but play along with the Fux Snooze line of "the FBI mislead me" to preserve future punditry/other money-raising opportunities to pay his bills on the back of of the moron base.

(113 posts)I'm not sure how to state this, but might all of this matter in a possible court marshall?
Even if he's retired from active service, isn't he still military & decorated as well?
Does the Military weigh in on all of Flynn's crimes after they are revealed?
What could they do to Flynn from a military standpoint?
Thanks

His assistance in Meuller's investigation should have been voluntary and not bargained for. It was/is his fucking duty. He should embbrace his time in prison like a man.
Period.

(999 posts)A a retired General with knowledge of American Tactics as well as a high level clearance Flynn was required to report any contacts as well as any payments he received from foreign entities. He failed to report the money he received from RT for attending that now infamous conference that Putin and Jill Stein were at. This is what started the initial investigation into his activities. This has been a foriegn intelligence investigation from the beginning. Sally Yates tried to warn Trimp off but he ignored and subsequently fired her. Now we know why.

And now we read more coming out as to Turkey.
Massive unforgiveable betrayal.

(317 posts)at a time when media bloviators accused people with personal views similar to mine of "not supporting the troops" -- or even of "treason." I went to Iraq without a weapon while those bloviators kept bloviating. "Disgust" can't begin to describe the incandescence of my negative reaction to someone like this person who betrays his country and his military uniform for money.

(1,370 posts)I remember reading in Stars and Stripes about some tough old men and women who were down range while I was there. I was in Tikrit, but I was only 45 so still young.
Flynn is a disgrace. I hope he really got what the judge was saying yesterday.

(36 posts)without even prior service, how were you able to join - I was under an assumption and per classified ads that age 36 was the cut-off though I thought of that as "age discrimination" where one had already served and trained and had a mainly non-combat MOS???
IMHO, this in-active general should be at best be stripped of an honorable discharge, honors an ribbons, and pension. His crime(s) amount to much more than just the "oops, I didn't register my activities for which I was being paid." At worse, this person committed crimes against the USA, after swearing an oath, to defend its foundations in the Constitution and rules of law by actions that amounted to treason. He should spend the rest of his days locked away in Leavenworth as a matter of national security. I can't imagine having to parse every definition of legal language, and am disgusted at a legal and justice system that apparently lets this slide for "cooperating." It's not arguable to me, judge, he DID sell out America and plotted against American policies that were in place while being given access to national security intelligence; for that, no sentence would be too long.

(317 posts)is a clear sign that they had scraped the bottom of the barrel because they were so desperate and broken!
I was a noncombatant, though I went outside the wire more than 200 times while I was deployed to combat.

(2,132 posts)As a retired flag officer, hes getting a sizable retirement check plus health insurance (which is worth a lot nowadays).
Its my understanding that he would have to be brought back in active duty for court martial proceedings, and if hes found guilty, they can strip his retirement benefits from him. Im not a lawyer, just a veteran who didnt commit treason, so Im not sure of the process.

(2,132 posts)I just cant wrap my brain around his actions. He violated so many norms and acted like a traitor to our country. Worst of all, he may not end up serving any prison time or losing his retirement checks. Its infuriating.

(10,828 posts)the judge's disgust and I'm glad he called this out from the bench. Flynn got the deal of a lifetime for being a traitorous weasel. Instead of jumping for joy, he had to smack down the FBI one more time and play to Trumpski's base.
The judge was not amused. Neither was I.

(5,269 posts)Former DOJ official on MSNBC speculated that Mueller team will be submitting additional justification to Judge for their recommendation of Flynn not having to serve any time and their giving him a range of only 0 to 6 months, since if Flynn had been charged in the Turkey deal, the range would have been more than the 6 months. Judge wants further clarification from prosecutor regarding Flynn's criminality and cooperation deal before judge makes his final decision.
I don't see how or what they can present that would justify no jail time
