Crowley's Parting Shot: Ousted by Ocasio-Cortez, He Undermined Barbara Lee in House Leadership Race

"The election of Rep. Hakeem Jeffries as House Democratic Caucus chair on Wednesday represented a symbolic and substantive comeback for the wing of the party that had suffered a stunning defeat last June, when Rep. Joe Crowley was beaten by primary challenger Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Jeffries, who represents a Brooklyn district next door to Crowley’s, bested Rep. Barbara Lee of California, who had the support of the insurgent movement that had ousted Crowley....

Crowley, though, wasn’t going gently into the night. In the run-up to the vote, he told a number of House Democrats that Lee had cut a check to Ocasio-Cortez, painting her as part of the insurgency that incumbents in Congress feel threatened by, according to Democrats who learned of the message Crowley was sharing."

Letters to the Editor.

And you are correct - Greenwald is a Russian lover. I wonder how much money he got paid to push this story.

If Crowley did in fact do this to Barbara Lee then we have to wonder why. She deserved better.

Is much younger, and represents a new face of black Americans in the Democratic Party. He shows how you get into the 78%. . . but has a strong focus on the 22%.

I don't do the white American 99% vs. 1% thing.

I'm black - I'm an American. I do the 78% have / 22% have not in the black community.

Jefferies is young (to me - I'm a gen ex just 3 years younger than him) and truthfully - It's my generation's turn. I think Pelosi's backfill should be someone born in the late 60's to mid 70's.

Hakeem is highly qualified and EARNED the position.

NOTHING - NOTHING - has been handed to that man who came from a working class neighborhood and worked very hard for everything he has. It has nothing to do with internal party bickering and who gave what money to that person - Doesn't matter. He earned it.

Does the Intercept take letters to the editor? Because they need one. They can keep pushing this all they want. But they need to have serious and severe pushback from the Democratic Party VOTERS. Enough.

They should be spending all of their time showing America what a bunch Russian Lover Republicans are up to. THEY are evil.

It's not Alexandria, Barbara, Hakeem, Nancy, Chuck -

It's them 'ones' over there that are evil and need to eradicated from public life.

....she never apologized for that.

The thing is he was already on the Working Family Party line even before the Democratic Primary. Everyone knew going into the Democratic Primary that he was going to be the WFP candidate in November.

"Reflecting on the race, Lee said she saw sexism and ageism at work. Jeffries is 48; Lee is 72.

“I absolutely think that that’s the case,” she told reporters after Jeffries was declared the winner. “That’s something that women, especially women of color, African American women, have to face.”"

For one thing, connecting Lee's contribution to Cortez to Crowley's support for Jeffries is entirely false. She didn't make her contribution to Cortez until AFTER the primary in which Crowley had been eliminated.

Crowley has been Congressman in the district bordering on Jeffries' district, they have been working together for years - first with Jeffries as State Representative and then as Congressman for the last five years. He's seen Jeffries in action first hand.

There was absolutely NO animosity between Crowley and Lee, that's simply a manufactured BS by Glenn Greenwald's questionable Intercept. And who is Greenwald's BFF? Edward Snowden. And where has Snowden been living the last five years? Moscow.

I tend to take their “reporting” with a big ole bolder of salt. YMMV of course.
