White House Reporter Calls Out Sarah Sanders for Saying FBI ‘Ambushed’ Flynn: The Judge Was ‘Disgusted’

Earlier today White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders baselessly claimed the FBI “ambushed” Michael Flynn in how it conducted his interview. At today’s press briefing, following Flynn’s sentencing hearing, she was confronted on those remarks.

CBS News Radio’s Steven Portnoy, who was in the courthouse, noted how much the judge excoriated Flynn and how “disgusted” he was by his crimes. He also pointed out that Flynn “said he knew that it was illegal to lie to the FBI and he was ready to accept responsibility.” And so Portnoy asked, “Would you like to revisit your comments earlier today the FBI ambushed Flynn?”

“No,” Sanders responded.

“The things that may have taken place––again, that’s for the judge to make that determination whether he engaged in something inappropriate,” she elaborated. “What we do know that was inappropriate by own self-admittance of James Comey is that the FBI broke standard protocol in the way that they came in and ambushed General Flynn and in the way that they questioned him and in the way that they encouraged him not to have White House counsel’s office present.”

Portnoy also asked why Michael Flynn isn’t a “rat” like Michael Cohen is. Sanders just said Cohen is a known liar.
