According to Yahoo News
A Syrian teen had reportedly been attacked in a high school bathroom and hospitalized with a concussion.
Facebook user Alexis Work posted a video Saturday of a blond girl wearing a lavender sweater beating a 14-year-old student wearing a hijab inside a bathroom at Chartiers Valley High School in Bridgeville, Pa. According to Pittsburgh station WTAE, the girl wanted to vape inside the stall occupied by the Muslim student, who said it wasnt allowed.
The blond girl said, according to Newsweek, Youre lucky youre from another language because I will crush you, then pummeled the 14-year-old in the head. Im not punching you, you punched me first, yelled the victim. The blond girl continued attacking the student, even as she fell to the floor and screamed, Leave me alone.
Work told WTAE that the blond student is suspended from school until Thursday and has a court hearing on Thursday, in which the school is going to attempt to expel her.

(7,805 posts)I don't care what latent tendencies people may harbor.
You have a society that condones peace & harmony
Or you don't!
Trump doesn't Capone peace and harmony;
But he does embolden hate & bigotry

(1,204 posts)Trump just exploits it and seems to normalize it for certain types of people. Which is why I always say I'm less worried about Trump than I am for the people who support him now and will continue to exist. Even once Trump is gone and we regain some sense of normalcy, those people will still be there waiting for someone else to exploit their ignorance. Maybe someone smarter and more smooth than Trump in that they can still exploit the xenophobic parts, but also somehow do it in a way that is less obvious and more palatable. I dunno, then again, maybe that's what the republican party was doing before Trump.
Either way, these attitudes were there well before Trump and will still be there after he's gone.

(7,547 posts)Schools are teaching racism now. Churches are preaching racism now. The media is teaching racism now. Parents are teaching racism to their kids now. Sorry to harp, but they've just brought it out of the barber shops and beauty salons into the open.

(13,200 posts)I grew up 30 miles from that school, SW PA was Klan level racist years before Trump.
It was kind of bad in the 70s and got way worse in the 80s as the steel and coal jobs were sent to China or Brazil and Reagan blamed welfare queens in Cadillacs
