Something Trump said today - your opinion please

Listening to NPR on a drive between Tulsa and Kansas City, and most of the coverage was about the wall, possible shutdown, yada yada yada.

They played a clip of Trump talking about the need for the wall, and he gave several reasons - drug cartels, gang violence, illegal immigration, but then he said this, "And believe it or not... coyotes."

So I'm not sure if I'm too nice and giving Trump too much credit... I know coyotes (the animals) can be a problem, but surely not that big of a problem that it warrants a mention? So that leaves the type of coyotes that refer to the people who are paid to smuggle other people across the border.

I'm guessing Trump was reading ahead in his speech (which he of course didn't write and was looking at for the first time), and it probably read, "drug cartels, gang violence, illegal immigration, coyotes..." and he saw that and thought, "Hey, there's an unexpected benefit of the wall not related to my racism. I should highlight it..." thus, "And believe it or not..."

So I'm 99% sure about this, but I wanted to see if anyone else had heard of the wall helping with the coyote (animal) population.

8. A college friend told me this story

In high school, he had a stoner friend, and they would watch Roadrunner and Coyote cartoons together, and one day as a joke, my friend pretended to get really upset about them and ask out loud, "Why doesn't the Coyote just take the money he's using to buy shit from Acme and use it to buy groceries." His friend didn't laugh which was kind of annoying.. until an hour alter when his friend said, out of the blue, "Maybe the Coyote's dad worked at the factory, and he got a family discount."

7. I think you're right. Though I can't imagine that they put the term in a speech without explaining

that it's a long-time term used to refer to smugglers of humans from Mexico into the US. Trumpie just skipped any explanation and jumped to the word. Or someone in the WH speech-writers group decided to mess with him and see if he took the bait. He did!

He's unwinding so fast we can't keep up.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coyotaje

Coyote is a colloquial Mexican–Spanish term referring to the practice of people smuggling across the U.S.–Mexico border.[1] Smuggling should not be misinterpreted to mean human trafficking. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) define smuggling as the "Importation of people into the United States involving deliberate evasion of immigration laws. This offense includes bringing human beings into the country, as well as the unlawful transportation and harboring of immigrants already in the United States."[2] In short, human smuggling centers on the willful, illegal transportation of migrants into another country. The word coyotes originated in the early 19th century, where it was used to describe a person that employed Mexican immigrants for labor in the United States. During this period the United States had a demand for Mexican workers, therefore the first form of coyoje was created. The Coyote’s main job would be to recruit hard-working Mexicans by traveling to Mexico and transporting them to the United States or hire the workers once they arrived in the U.S.

12. I hadn't thought of it, but when he said coyotes I bet he was thinking the 4 legged ones.

The "unexpected benefit" gives it away since a smuggler is not unexpected in his list of villains.

Most people don't know that the wall will keep the ugly ones out, I'm taking 6's and under -you can use 7's as gardeners and maybe maids in the general areas of the hotel, but the VIP sections need 8's and up, no bowsers, you know, just very, very, good looking workers, bigly, will do. I have only the best looking workers in my hotels, VERY GOOD!!
