(1,822 posts)Trump cant stand having a check on him and McConnell would have to deal with the Dems should we get the senate back any time soon. Unfortunately if this drags on i dont see Trump caving and McConnell may end up caving to Trump on this just to open the government back up.

(36,747 posts)It would mean we Dems wont have to do it when we take back the Senate.
When we take it back we should definitely nuke the filibuster completely.

(82,849 posts)He knows that he's entering his last two years of his Majority Leadership. The Senate map for 2020 is tougher for Republicans than 2018 was for Democrats. Considering the long odds against them, losing only two net seats in the Senate was a terrific hold for Democrats, and they have all the political momentum on their side.
Changing the rules of the Senate now would be a disaster in waiting for the Republicans, a ticking time bomb that will blow them apart when Congress goes back to one party rule. McConnell won't end the filibuster just so Trump can strut around crowing about his worthless victory on wall.

(14,998 posts)to obstruct like they did with Obama. If they nuke the filibuster, in 5 years max (likely within 3) they will lose all of the GOP agenda gains of the past 20+ years.
