Trump's food stamp cut will hit his single, white, male base the hardest

Nearly 800,000 people could lose their access to food stamps if US president Donald Trump gets his way. And many of them will be single, white men.

“Today, at the direction of President Donald J. Trump, we are taking steps to restore integrity to SNAP and move people toward self-sufficiency,” US Department of Agriculture chief Sonny Perdue said in a press release issued Thursday.

-----

The USDA’s proposal, if it is implemented after a 60-day comment period, would tighten those restrictions, requiring that the local unemployment rise above 7% before the 20% provision is triggered. Of the roughly 2.8 million ABAWDs in the US, about 755,000 are not currently working and under the new rule would lose their SNAP benefits, which come to approximately $5 a day.

What Trump may not realize is that ABAWDs tend to match the profile of his core constituency. According to data from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a Washington DC think tank, 55% of low-income ABAWDs are male, and 48% are white. (Given the millions of women with children who are also in the program, men make up only 38% of adult SNAP participants overall.)

.

While Whites (73% people/48% usage) and AA (13% people/35% usage), this disproportionately impacts Non-White's.

It would be interesting to see the demographic background of this report, since Hispanics & Latinos are also classified among multiple races, and US Demographics shows that 17% of Americans associate themselves as such. 83% of the US population is considered Non-Hispanic or Latino, which means that their 17% is. You can't have 73% Whites + 13% AA and 17% H&L as that exceeds 100% (Also, there is no room for the others).

I get the point, what in sheer numbers Whites are impacted more, but as a percentage of the population minorities are. AA & H&L comprise around 22% of the population, yet combined (35+13) partake in the same 48% usage as Whites.

I'm a single, retired male whose income is under the 100% federal poverty level and next month I will get a whopping $24 in Food Share benefits, down from $34 this month since in January I'll be getting a $23 COLA on my SS so they need to take back nearly 1/3 of my Food Share.

Before we dance and celebrate the single, white males of Trump's base losing out on their Food Share benefits is there any chance that there might be some Liberal single and white males getting them as well?
Plus, don't believe for a moment that Trump followers rationalize things as we do.

if he wanted to help the farmers, instead of handouts, he would double food stamps instead of cutting them.
