put solar cells on the WH roof which Reagan immediately had torn out when he took office.
It made me think of how far along towards technological and socio/economic development the country would have moved towards if repugs hadn't stolen the WH for Nixon, then Reagan/Daddy Bush, W Bush and now the orange pustule that is trump. All those regressive administrations put the brakes on so much it's almost incalculable.

News reporters ridiculed the decision by equating what the USDA really implied "ketchup" and the story took off. NY Times op-ed writer/satirist Russell Baker (I loved that guy) seemed to the most fun with it.

(67,782 posts)....yet any time anyone today wants to release some of that oil for any reason (generally to control skyrocketing prices) the REPUBLICANS scream and holler that "they're too important and strategic to tap into" (not exact quote)
It's a case of the republicans want their cake and eat it too.
