Wonder whether our best chance is for someone to primary challenge

Trump. I think that Rubio is considering.

Of the three favorites of their primaries, who were considered "outsiders," Rubio was the least revolting. Though I am sure he is revolting enough.

And if history is any indication - before social media, of course - when a sitting president is challenged by a member of his own party - Kennedy to Carter, Reagan to Ford - they lose. Not the reason, just one more parameter.

I've always been envious how the Republicans could get their members of Congress to toe the line while ours have to have their own agenda, to go against the president. Getting the ACA was not that easy, I remember individual members had their own demands and we had to accommodate them. I remember LA Mary Landrieu being against the public option so it was removed. And then she was, too.

Don't defeat him in the primaries, just wound him bad enough for a DEMOCRAT to beat him in the general.

He's waiting in the wings should the Dotard's popularity with republicans slip. The right wing evil is strong in our governor and he's much more politically effective than say Pence.

I agree that a serious primary challenge would weaken tRump in the general.

For all their pearl-clutching regarding Trump's fecklessness, they know he's the President they've been dreaming of for the last forty years. No matter how many repubs get dragged into Trump's black hole of venal criminality, they're not going to throw him under the bus. They're still hoping for more tax cuts, war with Iran (or really anybody, as long as they can use a foreign policy failure to overshadow his domestic policy failure), and destroying Social Security.

If any republican sticks his head up long enough to announce a primary challenge, the RNC will find a way to shoot it off...
