Still plenty to complain about with Kasich - but this is good news from a couple of days ago

Today, Governor John Kasich issued Executive Order 2018-12K to take a significant step in ensuring that all Ohioans, including LGBTQ Ohioans, are protected from discrimination in state employment. This Executive Order explicitly prohibits discrimination in state employment on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, and other protected bases such as race, color, religion, age, and disability.

2. So my rights aren't important? Thanks so much for your concern.

As a founding member of Equality Ohio - when we formed EO more than a decade ago, Ohio was dead last (or close to it) in housing, employment, and marriage protection for LGBTQ individuals.

Having employment protection for state employees - especially for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals - is huge.

especially when it is not politically popular with his base - is counter-productive.

is he's made right wing jerks like Kasich appear almost reasonable at times.

Kasich is not our friend, no matter what EO he signed.

where people with whom we disagree on most things can take positive actions, and we can't even bring our selves to acknowledge that step.

9. This is a positive. It's no more than Kasich respecting court rulings.

Kasich is on record as supporting a federal amendment banning same sex marriage. Voted yes on banning same sex couples from adopting in DC. Has publicly stated you should pray for same sex couples to help them change.

He is a bigot.

Where he is different than many Republicans is that he recognizes the will of the people in this country and court decisions. This EO is keeping in-line with major court decisions. Kasich isn’t willing to fight a losing battle.

I also believe the only change this EO established is to include gender identity. The rest was already in an EO that was issued in 2011.

I hope DeWine will issue his own. Equality Ohio gave DeWine an F rating.

The correction is important and shows how far we have to go in the fight for equality. The new make-up of the SC is horrifying for many reasons. This is a big one.

Again, thank you. The distinction is major.

and give Kasich grudging props for doing what he was basically forced into.

But I certainly would never vote for him.

He's still a RW hack.
