Why Do Republican Voters Continue to Support Trump?

I’ve done some research on the topic, and this is what I’ve come up with.

It’s his honesty. What president hasn’t lied over six thousand times in less than two years in office? Let’s get real.

It’s his verbal eloquence. Sure, Obama’s speeches captured the world’s attention and inspired a nation. But Barack never came close to Trump’s ability to insult our allies in 240 characters or less.

It’s his intellect. We’ve seen him point to his own head countless times, assuring us that he has the biggest brain in captivity. Who can argue with such an in-your-face fact?

It’s his “good Christian values”. Because nuthin’ says nuthin’ like the time-honoured tradition of good Christians paying off their mistresses and then lying about it.

It’s his patriotism. Any fool can attend ceremonies that honour our war dead. It took a real patriot to stand up and say, “I’m not going because it’s raining, and I’m just not in the mood.”

It’s his empathy. No one has ever been more concerned about the trauma of children being taken away from their parents than the man who took children away from their parents.

It’s his ability to deliver on promises – like Mexico paying for the Wall, healthcare that will cover everyone and be cheaper and more efficient than Obamacare, and cutting the deficit in record time.

It’s his tireless dedication to the job. Often “at the office” by noonish, he’s been known to put in grueling two-hour days between TV-watching, tweeting, and scheduling his next round of golf.

It’s his business savvy. He is, after all, a self-made billionaire – and those bankruptcies and failed business ventures were all someone else’s fault.

It’s his humility. He keeps reminding everyone how he knows more than the generals about the military, more than scientists about climate change, more than economists about the economy – but he does so reluctantly, because he doesn’t want the attention.

It’s his sense of humour. No other president has gotten more yuks than the man who thinks it’s funny to yell ”Lock her up!” when he’s the one facing being locked up.

It’s his “common touch”. He knows what the average citizen goes through trying to make ends meet – having been advised by those who can afford to party at Mara-Lago and understand what it’s like to scrape by on less than an eight-figure annual income.

It’s his awareness of reality. That’s why he watches “Fox & Friends”, in order to keep his hand on the pulse of the nation.

It’s his romantic nature. He just can’t help “falling in love” with despotic dictators, and isn’t ashamed to fellate Putin on the world stage.

It’s his capacity to understand hard evidence and facts. That’s why he knows that stealth bombers are invisible to the naked eye, and knows that the “caravan” is comprised of drug-dealers and rapists.

It’s his ability to keep his cards close to his vest. That’s why he’s never revealed the names of those 3,000,000 illegal voters who voted for Hillary – nor even revealed how he knows there were 3,000,000 illegal votes and who they were cast for.

It’s his incredible skill at being able to identify the country’s real enemies. That’s why he hasn’t cut people like Rosie O’Donnell, Bette Midler, and Cher any slack.

It’s his unparalleled PR skills. Who could deny that labelling the free press as “enemies of the people” would get those shills to immediately embrace his every word? Who could dispute the idea that labelling judges as unfit due to their ancestry was the quickest way to endear himself to every Hispanic, Asian, and Middle-Eastern judge in the country?

It’s his stellar history of loyalty to his “friends”. No one has been more dedicated to protecting their staunchest supporters than the guy who keeps throwing those supporters under the bus when they refuse to go to jail in order to keep him out of prison.

It’s his ability to choose only the “best people” for positions of responsibility. And the fact that a lot of those “best people” are under investigation, have been indicted, and/or have had to resign in disgrace is no reflection on his “choosing the best people” skills.

It’s his grasp of what’s truly important to the American people. Say what you will about exploding deficits and middle-class workers not getting any tax relief; what’s really important is your neighbourhood merchants being able to sell “Christmas trees” instead of “Xmas trees” at their going-out-of-business sales.

It’s his backbone. Once he’s made up his mind about something it cannot be swayed – unless Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh call you a wuss.

It’s his personal charisma. Who can resist an orange baboon with a crop circle on his head?

It’s his sense of responsibility. It’s not his fault that it’s everyone else’s fault that his administration is an unmitigated disaster.

It’s his commitment to “America First”. And the fact that he still has all of his branded merchandise manufactured in low-wage countries has nothing to do with it.

If you’re a made-in-China MAGA-hat wearing brain-dead idiot, it’s all so easy to understand.

The first hint that their constituents are backing away from Trump, they'll turn on him completely! You can bet your life, in the back rooms of both houses of congress, they're all grumbling about how much of a jackass he is.

Why does a man weighing 350 pounds and diagnosed with arterial blockage continue to subsist on Big Macs and Hostess Twinkies?

And yet, some do, and see nothing amiss. THOSE are your Republicans that support Trump. Yes, it's their right, but they still leave an awful lot of damage in their wake.

...completely untethered from fact-based reality. They're worse than the Moonies, actually, because the brainwashing is something they did to themselves (with a big assist from Fox News).

An acquaintance said to me the other day that Trump reminds him of Harry Truman and his "the buck stops here" slogan because Trump--get this--always take responsibility for his actions. It wanted to let out some kind of primal scream. What do you do with people who inhabit such an alternate universe?

How on earth can any sane person argue that Trump takes responsibility for ANYTHING? Unless it's positive and he had nothing to do with it. All he does is blame others and project. They really are brainwashed.

Two other corollaries to this:

The MAGA crowd seems to love pointing out when the above groups "fall down", whine or lack "common sense". You know, the smart person does dumb things. We're all human and make mistakes but this group can do no wrong. Donnie satisfies both of these conditions, he calls smart people dumb and never admits when he makes a mistake.

The MAGA crowd will never allow the "other side" govern or recognize them as legitimate since they allow big city minorities to vote multiple times and allow noncitizen to vote, don't you know. Funny how it's love it or leave it when their crew wins but pry my dead fingers from my gun 2nd amendment when the other side wins (cheating).

For these reasons I'd like a divorce from these people. If the Dems ever win full control I'd strongly suggest they pass a bill that keeps our tax receipts from going to states/counties that receive more federal tax money than they contribute or when austerity cuts are needed they come mostly from areas that are not contributing their fair share of tax revenue. Why are the Republican congressional leaders from tax poor states like KY and WI? The states that pay the most federal taxes should be making decisions on spending not the taker states.

There is really no place left in the GOP for any Republicans who consider themselves to be moderates yet we see on the Left that anybody who is a Democrat but judged to not be sufficiently Liberal or Progressive get derided and put-down as being a DINO or Republican Lite.
But some Republicans voted for Trump and support him because they just cannot bring themselves to support what from their point of view are the socialists on the Left. Some support Trump because the judges and justices who he nominates are important to them and so far on that point they have no complaints.
But would either of those groups ever feel there is any place for them in a Democratic Party whose tent seems to be getting smaller and there are Democrats who are estranged from their own family members and friends who are conservatives? Probably not, so they stay with Trump.
