Graham has acted like a complete fool in the past year. I have my suspicions, and it has nothing to do with Russians.

Early in the trump administration, when Lindsey was still speaking out, he got as low as 40% in SC polls of Republicans when asked whether he should be re-elected in 2020. He now sits at better than 60%.
Don’t underestimate how hardcore the GOPers are in the dark red states. Trump has shown that he can beat people in primaries, even as he becomes a liability to them in the general elections.

of Kavanaugh has a lot to do with his rising poll numbers among Republicans.

Graham has long been perceived as a squish on immigration, and his kid-glove treatment of Elena Kagan is still remembered. But his full-throated defense of Brett Kavanaugh re-energized conservative support, and thus the 20% boost in support for Graham.

He may be protecting someone he loves from exposure, because, unfortunately, that's how things still are in this country.

My BIL has family in South Carolina. Hubs and I were there last summer and a few of BIL's family who had voted for Trump had soured on him (This is in Beaufort and Charleston area). These voters are in their 70s and early 80s. When the subject of Lindsay Graham came up, one of BIL's 40ish age cousin said to us, "We know he is gay. As long as he doesn't tell people he is gay, people will vote for him." Another family member said, "He's a confirmed bachelor." Cray-cray.

If they couldn’t dig something up, they would have sent people who recorded them offering lots of money for favors.

I bet they got every Republican Senator and many house members.

If Trump's base in South Carolina turns on Lindsey he's toast.

Also he may be angling for Cabinet position.

But Trump's Syria actions made that impossible. Who knows but I'd imagine McCain must be turning over in his grave watching Graham melt like a snowflake.

That would alleviate him from having to worry about Trump's base. Of course he would have to deal with Trump and he's wildly unpredictable. Maybe Lindsey thinks he's ready to be the next "adult in the room".

https://www.cnn.com/2016/12/14/politics/lindsey-graham-hacking-russia-donald-trump/index.html

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said Wednesday his campaign email account was hacked by Russians -- adding that the US needs to work together to stop this from happening.

"I do believe the Russians hacked into the (Democratic National Committee). I do believe they hacked into (John) Podesta's email account. They hacked into my campaign account," he told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on "The Situation Room." "I do believe that all the information released publicly hurt Clinton and didn't hurt Trump. I don't think the outcome of the election is in doubt. What we should do is not turn on each other but work as one people to push back on Russia."
He added he doesn't believe that the hacking affected the elections.

"I think Hillary Clinton lost because she wasn't an agent of change and she tried to disqualify Trump and she wasn't able to do it," he said. "This is not a Republican or Democratic issue."
"They're trying to destabilize democracy all over the world. Not just here," he said about the Russians. "Here's what we should do. We should tell the Russians that on no uncertain terms, you interfere in our elections, we don't care why, we're going to hit you and hit you hard, we're going to introduce sanctions, it'll to be bipartisan."
