NPR - "Peak Trump" and Mara Liasson

I just caught a bit of the Sunday morning show on NPR.

The host detailed the week's event - Mattis, McGurk, Syria, shutdown, etc - "For a President who thrives on chaos this week appears to be 'Peak Trump'".
That and "Vichy Republicans" (Frank Rich) are the two best phrases I've heard this week.

Then Mara Liasson was on. Granted some of this comes from the White House but she made two interesting points:
1. The administration doesn't think Trump will suffer any politic fallout from the shutdown.
and then this...
2. For his base the wall is is vital and they take it very literally. According to her sources in the White House/Trumpians they don't think he can get re-elected if he doesn't get the wall.


Let think sink in. They feel like they have to actually "go to the wall" on this.

1. The orange moron has virtually "gone to the wall" on every challenge of his personal investments,

power, and "superiority" his whole life. He has always sought "winning" with a vengeance and has no allegiance to any other goal or virtue. He has been able to do this only because of two things: the fortune gifted to him by his father which he could use to bludgeon opponents with law suits and/or counter suits, and his extreme, off-the-charts narcissism which enables a total and complete lack of self-doubt in virtually every circumstance. So ... no surprise that he would dig in and go all the way to the mat over the wall.

2. Mara Liasson has disappointed me since her Dubya apologist days. I no longer listen.

She is in the Maggie Haberman category for me - a "both sides do it" hack.

4. I agree on her.

That's why I pointed out the source. But, she is a reliable vent for them. Considering that telling her means an audience hears this that is clearly not the cult leads some credibility to it for me. The first part sounds like shaping the story but the second part doesn't.
