A letter to my grandfather dated 1932

The letter dated September 7th 1932 was from then NY governor Franklin D. Roosevelt to my grandfather who at the time was a Democratic Party district manager in Worcester Massachusetts. The letter was a message of thanks and encouragement to him as well as others in his district about getting out the vote for the upcoming presidential election. Of course as we all know FDR won the election. I had known that my grandfather was active to a degree in politics but not at the level where FDR would personally write him a letter. Unfortunately he passed when I was very young in the early 1960's. It would have been interesting to find out all that he was active in back then. Looks like my Democratic roots go back farther than I knew.

My copy of the original has his signature on it.

Strangely, I was born on September 7th, 1953, twenty one years later.

I remember after my grandfather passed away and we went back to his house after the funeral, we started going through his belongings.

I found a letter to him from President-Elect Bill Clinton. Apparently to congratulate him on his election he sent him a desk staff that he had made during World War II. Clinton sent him back a thank you note and the signature appears to be authentic, not just a robo-sign.

I had it framed and it’s now in my office at my workplace.

Finds like these are really cool.
