My header is a bit extreme I admit, but then think about it. We have a RW media for all practical purposes. We have a heavily infiltrated court and justice system i.e. Federal courts and Supreme Court. The PA situation should prove that. We have stalled judgeships unless they are RW. We have heavily gerrymandered pro RW districts. We have a huge red landmass voting block if you look at all the states where Obama or a Democrat will supposedly never win. We have expanding voter ID laws. We have "the machines" and privatized election systems. And we have no effective laws against dirty tricks and illegal activity. We have a totally out of control and pro RW money flow some of it very likely foreign. WE have RW'ingers slowling privatizing our schools with the aid of a President who is unfortunately helping them.
Now we have an even more aggressively reactionary party that is shameless in its lying and general lawlessness if you dig into the details of their operation. They are like a crime family. And anyone in who wants out is savaged.
Mostly we have a party that openly admits it is intent on purging the country of liberal, progressives and anyone who does not support 100% of what they believe. And we have a police state waiting in the wings to apply the force necessary for obedience.
AND THEY CLAIM THEY WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER GIVE UP IN FORCING THEIR WILL ON NONBELIEVERS.
KKKarl Rove could get his wish.

(39,313 posts)but in many cases they play with equal time for both sides, don't expose the absolute lies, and contribute to muddying the waters.
I wish there was a source that could manage each of the Republican lies as they arise that would get traction in the media.

(31,706 posts)...those who pay for the ink or the electrons. They have no responsibility to present "truth" or fact check when lied to and in many cases are glad to push false equivelencies to boost their ratings or lobbying position.
It's up to the Obama campaign and Democrats to get the message out...voter by voter...door by door. It's called the "ground game" and it'll be what makes or breaks this election. Its easy to blame the "media" but then that's also a lazy way to explain away the lack of conviction and hard work to match that of the other side.

(39,313 posts)is what I should have said.
In fact they are supposed to be -- but do the opposite -- and end up muddying the truth as a result. You can't knock on every door..

(31,706 posts)...they are only responsible to their stockholders. There's never been rules requiring them to be "responsible" or "fair"...that's up to you the consumer. Fortunately we live in an age where you are your own media...there are many sources to get information from and then you, and you alone, can determine what is "responsible" or true. Palming it off on the "media" or anyone else is highly counter productive.
No you can't knock on every door but a few in your neighborhood can go a long way...
Cheers...

(25,242 posts)It Actually Looks Like Somebody - Some Group Is Trying To Bring Down The United States.........
This really looks like a 'coup' is in the works behind the scenes. What has happened since the Bush vs Gore decision by SCOTUS seems well thought out and methodical. The BushCo years and the destruction they brought on to our economy and culminating in the Citizens United decision. This Rmoney/Ryan ticket looks like more planned destruction to this country if he is elected.
I don't know if it is the rich 1%'ers that are doing this. I really don't know what they gain by it as it is us 99%'ers that keep them in the chips. However, it really looks like someone - some group is looking to crush us.
I just hope the people of this country get smart and quit voting against their best interests and don't let it happen.
I agree with you - what is going on is planned and methodical.
