House Democrats Should Stick to Their Guns.

Keep continued government funding completely separate from the Wall or "Border Security," as Trump is now euphemizing it.

Re-fund the government and get federal employees back to work, but handle that other stuff as the separate issue it really is.

Just do that, and stick to it.

immediately - on Thursday. Then, off to the Senate it goes. Democrats will vote for continued funding. If Republicans don't or Trump vetos, that's on them. Democrats will have done their job.

That's the only way to handle this. Make the Republicans own their action.

if it hurts federal workers and the government's shut down, as long as the (R) get the blame, that's fine. It's a reasonable price to pay for not trying to find middle ground and scoring political points?

...about the time President Obama nominated an excellent jurist (who they claimed would be acceptable) and then just chose to stonewall Obama and not even grant the nominee the courtesy of an office visit, much less a hearing in the Senate.

Actually, it died long before.

Americans who are being hurt by this shutdown are being hurt by Trump and his GOP enablers. Never forget that. Never concede the point. Never let them frame the debate.

Separate CR funding from the border issue. It's so simple.

that CRs should be separate from pretty much every other issue.

Want an actual budget, talk. Hammer out a deal. But to keep the status quo? It was good enough before, it's good enough now, unless something on the ground has changed--revenue's have fallen by 10%, FEMA needs an additional $20 billion to handle a massive flea outbreak in Minnesota or Belize has invaded and occupied the Pacific Northwest, for some ludicrous examples.

I really don't care who's the majority or in the WH when it comes to that. Everything else, on both sides, involves hostage taking, playing political games with employees' lives.

.

Trump can't be trusted, and any deal stands the risk of him playing Dems again.

If an agreement is made, he'll cancel it, saying it's not good enough.

so yeah, just do what needs to be done, and let the Repub chips fall where they may. It seems a bit less likely that the media will let the Repubs control the messaging this time around, unlike the early Obama years.
