Employees’ lawyer says he turned the forged papers over to the feds

Supervisors at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, provided fake green cards and Social Security numbers to undocumented employees, according to a report in the Washington Post. Anibal Romero, a lawyer representing five immigrants who were undocumented while working at the Trump property, told the newspaper that he turned the fraudulent documents over to the FBI.

“I’m confident that federal and state authorities will conduct a complete and thorough investigation,” Romero told the New York Daily News in an interview. Romero first contacted Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor investigating the president, but Mueller told him it was not within his jurisdiction. A few weeks later, though, an FBI agent contacted Romero.

According to Romero, the FBI said they would “coordinate” with the New Jersey attorney general, suggesting that they are investigating employment practices at Trump’s Bedminster club.

FBI comes into play to investigate this as a criminal conspiracy involving counterfeit documents and identity fraud since usually the "fake" social security cards are real social security numbers belonging to other people such as young children and unemployed adults.

The arrangement by an employer to actually assign fraudulent and counterfeit docs goes a whole step beyond being negligent and breaking law by not verifying whether an employee's Social Security number is legitimate allowing them to work legally.

If this country was really concerned about the incentives for illegal hires, business owners would be investigated and charged. Not only would most companies stop hiring but they would lobby for real reform. Right now they have the best of both worlds...no liability and exploitable labor.
