Wildfire Jihad: Al Qaeda urges followers to start wildfires, California among potential targets

This is troubling, coming as our region faces the worst drought since 1940 and cuts in firefighting resources, all while new ignition sources (major powerlines, wind turbines, substations and a gas-fired power plant) are in the pipeline to be built in areas that historically have suffered severe wild fires.

August 16, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – Amid blistering heat and wildfires blazing across our region, here’s news that may inspire a chill down your spine.

A recent issue of Al Qaeda’s publication, Inspire, has surfaced on jihad forums inspiring Western terrorists to start forest fires in the U.S.

While Homeland Security has warned of the potential for wildfires to be used as weapons of terror in the past, the latest Inspire issue specifically included directions for building an ember bomb, Wildfire Today reported in May. The Inspire article included step-by-step instructions for building an ember bomb. Moreover, the piece listed California as one of several potential targets, among other wildfire-prone regions.

We're supposed to believe that terrorist groups, especially Al Queda--writes, designs and disseminates their own newsletter?

This tale gets more ludicrous as the years roll by.

There have been warnings issued in several major cities in wildfire-prone areas. This is a credible threat.

The Wildfire Today site was just one of many links in the story. This is real, or at least Homeland Security thinks so.

Inspire is the glorious publication responsible for "Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of your Mom" and other equally WTF-y articles. I cant seem to find the Maddow segment (which was priceless) on it, but suffice it to say, it's either a spoof or the stupidest thing going.
