Should Speaker Pelosi permit Trump to give SOTU speech with the government closed?

Actually, I think he wants the SOTU speech more than he wants the wall...

If he is permitted to speak, it will probably be an embarrassment as he will throw red meat to his supporters and call everyone else names. It would probably be best for him if he did not speak?

He is playing mind games with her at the present time, daring her to officially block him from speaking. She has not yet made it official, the last I had heard.

Perhaps she should say, "No, there is a price to pay for your unacceptable behavior and shutting down our government. The answer is "No". Go sit in the corner."

that he may want the SOTU speech more than he wants the wall.

Whatever constitutes attention to him is what he wants. All day, every day.

Damn, but he's exhausting.

Can Madam Speaker give Trumpy a Time Out?

She can of course allow him to have it.

I'm sure she will do the right thing.

and damn right she should!!! Until he signs the requisite bills to fully funs all government departments, agencies, etc. he gets no joint session of Congress for any reason, and he is not welcome in the House Chamber, full stop.

The SOTU is a real bore anyway. Trump's lies and exaggerations won't make it any better.

Unless everyone is playing Trump bingo or taking shots every time he lies.

We'd lose a good 2% or so of the population that way to alcohol poisoning.
It'll be like a pandemic, overwhelming the ERs nation-wide.

Also, no congresscritters - as there doesn't need to be a special session. An ego-boo rally is not a SOTU address.

Pelosi said no as long as the government is shut down, and I doubt his groupies in the House have enough votes to force her hand in the matter. Everyone and their staffers can just go home or back to the offices at 1730 or so for dinner, or go get some real work done after hours.

If he wants to televise a "State of The Delusion" address from the Oval Office, he can do that with no additional impact to the over-stressed unpaid government employees during this shutdown.
But because he feeds off his pacifier crowds cheering at his televised dictatorial gibberish like some vampiric mafia boss, that's not something he would even consider.

invitation. Has something changed over the 50 or so years since then or the high school and even college American government classes I took. If the president shows up uninvited I hope the Speaker has the Capitol Police arrest him.

From the below article: "It was unclear how Trump would address lawmakers Jan. 29, as the House and Senate must pass a concurrent resolution for a joint session of Congress to hear the president."
