(135,425 posts)I can't believe ostensibly educated people can be so willfully obtuse.

(15,330 posts)the wealthy and well off will continue to have access to abortion when they need, or "want" it.
It's the "takers" that get screwed in this Ayn Randian Wingnut world.
I never thought I would agree with Paul Ryan, but when he said "it seems we're living in an Ayn Rand novel".....

(23,973 posts)They are hypocrites, the lot of 'em.
When I was a kid, the young female members of the well-to-do families always seemed to need a D&C for 'excessive menstrual bleeding' back then.
Those of lesser means just ended up having a kid.

(15,330 posts)I remember in the past, the Repukes came up with some rather "extreme" Party Platforms, but the media allowed the top of the ticket to claim; "well, we don't necessarily support everything in the platform of the Party whose banner we are running under"
And they got away with it

(47,992 posts)between men and women - AND - therefore, FORCE, in its myriad manifestations, DOES. NOT. HAPPEN.
It's really scarey, but it's also good, because, now, we get to talk about the objectifiable differences in male power compared to female power and that very obviously includes equal-pay-for-equal-work, one of the most profound differences in male vs. female power that most strongly determines women's vulnerabilities to rape.
CAN'T say that I feel like celebrating the fight ahead of us, but this is a GOOD context for it, something worth ever so much more IN ADDITION TO the primary value of women's autonomy over their own bodies.

(8,127 posts)they just say 'prove people have done that'
and of course, most of that happened before statistics about the subject were even taken..
tho there was a teenage girl a few years ago in ohio who got her boyfriend to repeatedly hit her in the stomach to cause an abortion because she was afraid of her parents..
so i use that story as my proof that it does infact happen, people just dont usually hear about it because it goes unreported

(22,756 posts)"...Other doctors present however who were familiar with the results of autopsy in large cities cited a number of cases where death had come from illegal abortion.
Particularly stressed was the grave danger of self induced abortions, which involved the insertion of various objects, medicinal substances, injection of fluid into the womb, or the insertion of corrosive chemicals.
Dr. Warren O. Nelson, medical director of the Population Council of New York, warned of the danger of certain drug compounds which are being used to induce abortion in the early stages..."

(58,162 posts)that never knew anyone who had this done to them. my wife is in her late 50`s and her generation was the first to have legal abortions. her mother`s generation lived with the coat hanger and other such evils.
