If you are from a red state, do you think differently than

most here about a nominee?

I think I just realized that I do. Like you may like someone personally but deep inside, given your experience with the people who surround you, you just know they would not win your state no matter how hard we work.

Sad fact sexism and racism still exist. I see it here in deep red part of Texas all the time. Hopeful for the next generation.

I do look at a nominee to see if I think they can win in the middle of the country. I love many of the far left progressive ideas, I just know they won't fly in enough states to win a national. We have to focus on local and state, then once that is done we can try a national.

Oklahoma has been eye opening to me about how far right people can really go and stay there no matter what.

Any D presidential candidate winning here in Kentucky. Too much extremist religion and extremist media.

I'm in KY, too, and the people around me still mention Obama coming for their guns, now and then.

Just gotta keep slogging along. Bevin is the next hurdle to clear, this fall.

plays a huge role on who they vote for. I saw how people who might have been open to Beto change on a dime after reading and seeing the negative bullshit posts about him. Infiltrating Facebook is enormously effective with low infos.

No, I don't think I think differently than most here.

I also don't think that the picks I like will not win Texas no matter what. I think that once Texas is rid of it's gerrymandering and voter suppression efforts, it will be a blue state. Maybe because I am from the Dallas area and not rural-Texas, I meet other liberals all of the time.

While it may be harder to tell, if you live in rural-Texas. We're a lot closer to turning blue than people realize.

To call all shots, tell their woman who to vote for, get to relax while women cook, and just wait to be served. At parties, the men stand around outside and the women gather in the kitchen. First time I encountered it..went outside and they all looked at me like I was breaking every law in the state.

But all that aside, I bet Biden could win here. Someone not uppity, someone that reeks decency. They won't admit it, but bet many deep inside hate the trashy way MF45 acts.

a wingnut about Trump's personal behavior (cheating/payoffs) they would say "I don't care WHAT he did before he got elected.

Why I have been hoping they catch him cheating in the White House. LOL

Just remember:

2018 Beto got 48%
2016 Hillary got 43%
2014 Wendy got 38%
2012 Obama got 42%
2008 Obama got 43%

We really aren't that far off for state-wide elections. And with all of the fights going on all over the country for gerrymandering, it's only a matter of time before Texas' gerrymandering is fixed. In facts the Supreme Court has already ruled one district in Texas severely racially gerrymandered and is scheduled to be redrawn for fairness this year (we'll see how that goes). https://www.apnews.com/aa528c61f4ea456cbe668c4fe61c1d29

Plus, new incoming Dems really want to reinstate parts of the voting rights act. https://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/congress/article222729680.html Undoubtedly, they will face a lot of opposition from the right, and it may not happen this session. But the left knows that in order to fix voter suppression, the voting rights act needs to be reinstated.

So, I hope those things give you hope. They give me hope all of the time.

blue vs. others less likely, and others no way in hell. I go back and forth on which horror is more prevalent, sexism or racism - but usually think sexism rules. And, don't forget anti-liberalism! So, if you really like Harris, Gillibrand, Warren, Booker, or Bernie, for example, all signs point to a most unlikely win here. More likely, Biden, maybe Brown, Beto, sure I have left off somebody. Sad, but unfortunately true for this generation anyway.

All that said, we still don't know who we will run against. Probably not even MF45.

If it looks like (very likely IMHO) that we can win given their sad and may get worse state of affairs, we can run anyone we want. That may indeed be more important than turning the purple into blue.

I think pragmatically and strategically about the nominee. Who will GOTV? Who has the most appeal to low-information flibberdigibbets?

Harris ticks the most boxes in terms of motivating traditional Dem constituencies to show up, and she could tick a bunch more with a smart VP pick like Jon Tester. Guns could get buried as a divisive issue.

She also has the rhetorical gifts to counter President Bullshit that someone like Jay Inslee simply doesn't have.

choice early. Like Tester could mitigate the anti-liberalism to some degree. VP choices are afterthoughts now - and people pick non-offensive do-no-harmers. Why not use them to garner segments of voters?
