Women will surround Trump at State of the Union address

WASHINGTON — Pelosi behind and above. Female immigrants, gazing down from the balcony. A black woman who ran a close race for governor of Georgia, rebutting.

When President Donald Trump delivers his first State of the Union address under divided government on Tuesday, he'll be surrounded by these and other living reminders of the 2018 elections that delivered Democrats the House majority and a record number of women to Congress.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will sit just over his shoulder on the dais, on-camera, looking out at the assembled lawmakers, Cabinet members, Supreme Court justices and diplomats. Seated in front of Trump will be a record number of women House members, most Democrats and some dressed in easy-to-spot white. And in the gallery overhead? Two former employees of Trump's New Jersey golf club, women and immigrants, who have spoken out about its hiring practices.

Afterward, Stacey Abrams will become the first black woman to deliver the Democratic rebuttal.

when we don't need to say "first black" woman or man, or even identify them as "black." I know, I know ... we aren't there yet, and I'm sure I'll be deader than a door nail when it happens. But, it's coming ...

I want it to be normal for anyone to be in any position in business and govt. I do not want to know who a person is/represents based on their nationality, race, gender, sexual orientation, health/physical status, disabilities, religion or no religion at all, etc. I know this will not happen in this country during my lifetime.

Headlines about the first woman to be selected for some national biz organ. or something, I remember cutting the article/pic out of paper and sending it to a friend with similar comment that I hoped we would see something like this as normal, maybe even in my lifetime!
It was May, 1970.

I may even watch it. Perhaps I’ll mute it because I think I’m getting an emotional alergic reaction to the sound of his voice. Looking at him is becoming more and more impossible too. It’s beginning to feel like a gag reflex lately.

I think Scalia missed most of Obamas SOTUs. If I was on the Court, I wouldn't go as a matter of principle. Who was giving the speech wouldn't be an issue.

One option is to walk out, especially if cadet bone spurs* declares a national emergency in his address. I’m reminded of a joke I heard in high school, where the punchline referred to leaving the country after a deliberately rude and sexist remark.

Another is to shout something rude, like “You lie!” That would be stooping to the level of the RepubliCON at President Barack Obama’s address a few years ago. Nope!

What if — in addition to dressing in white (an excellent idea, BTW) — at the right moment (on cue, perhaps?), they stood in unison and silence, then turned their backs to him? Wouldn’t that send a bold, unmistakable and highly visual message to this imposter? And leave him stammering like a disgraced pre-schooler. On live TV.

Make it bold! Keep it classy, but unmistakable!

*What does it mean when my smartphone automatically suggests “bone spurs” when I type “cadet”?
I know: it is smarter than MAGAts.
My next lesson: teach it to autocomplete “MAGAt”.
