(33,643 posts)That was at minimum 100% pre-written, and quite possibly pre-recorded (not that there's anything wrong with that, I suspect it's what normally happens) ...
Bernie's speech was I'm sure also pre-written to large extent, but his writers did a great job of weaving in pieces from Trumps actual SOTU ... to make it seem like it was off-the-cuff and 'responsive'.
Course they also had much more time to work on it, while Stacey did her speech, so ...

(33,643 posts)And possibly pre-recorded. Which is kinda what you have to do when you go right after the SOTU. Due to the time constraint, Abrams was not able in her address to mention a single word Trump had spoken in the SOTU.
Bernie had the luxury of having time to pull his address together ... but as a result, it was truly a 'response', rather than 'The Democratic SOTU', written beforehand, w/o knowing what he'd say. His team did an amazing job in the short time they had though ... crafting what felt like it was a 100% live response to what Trump said.

(33,643 posts)I thought she did great, & I really love her. It was just a very different scenario due to the prep time that Bernie had available ... you almost can't compare their two addresses in many ways.

(58,785 posts)direct responses to his statements would have improved it. Merely an "optics" thing, though. The last thing I wanted was a rebuttal to his speech.
This was an important opportunity to remind the nation what the Democratic Party is for and is doing and how massively different we are from the intensely corrupted, increasingly dangerous white man's party.
Our top priority on gaining the house was to begin massive anti-corruption, voting rights and election reform, but most are unaware or unbelieving. She was the perfect person to underline our commitment to that existential problem and its solutions, in addition to many others all about serving the people of America instead of a few.
Imo overall all to the good, because we are in trouble and far too many, incredibly, still need to be told who they should be angry at and why, and Stacey tried to help them understand that they really do have the means of restoring health and prosperity and continuing our interrupted advancement.
