Would it not be poetic if the GOP put up with Trump to keep near the base

and then part of the base breaks for democrats and their policies, like good healthcare, fighting climate change and taxing the rich, in 2020? These issues all have more and more support.

... behind "putting up with Trump to keep the base" when that base is (a) not enough to re-elect him, and (b) starting to erode.

I don't know what the GOP's end game is - but I'm leaning towards keeping up a unified front as a party, while letting Trump self-implode before Mueller finishes him off. Then act shocked and dismayed, and tell your voters that Trump was the author of his own misfortune.

on Trump. They are going to let democrats do it alone. That way they don't lose the base...or so they think.
