Right Wing Hate Radio and FAUX news have been pushing such nonsense for many years now.

My father was always a conservative, as were his parents. But long about 1990 or so when RW hate radio came to town, this conservatism transformed into something else. Before hate radio came to town, Dad would just listen to his tapes or 8 tracks in the van, or music on the radio. Once wall-to-wall blather came on the scene, though, that was all that was ever on the radio in his truck. And he became more like the hosts: full of ridiculous talking points and disdain for anyone who wasn't just as conservative as he was. Didn't matter that what the voices were saying made little sense and were just jaw-jacking.The radio just confirmed and amplified the ideas by being loud and sympathetic to his concerns. Tone makes a difference.
