In the end, the Republicans in the Senate will follow their Leader instead of following the folly of Donald Trump. It is very likely that Trump has been informed of this eventuality.
So there will be no government "shutdown". Trump will stew behind the scenes and badmouth McConnell but he won't dare to say anything about him in public. He needs him if there is ever an impeachment.
So, what options are left for Trump? How can he keep his base appeased and his Party united behind him?
It is possible he may go the "national emergency" route? But, more likely, he will lie to his base and say that he is "continuing to build the wall" and is going to search for more money to continue the project. "The wall will be built", he will tell them.
When reality intrudes, lie about it.

(1,588 posts)tRump has lied and said he's been building pieces of his glorious wall all along. Now he's lying to his minions that all he has to do is "finish" building his wall. He'll probably take what he can out of this compromise bill and allocate it to new construction and take any funds he's able to from any other government departments to stuff into his wall. FEMA money will need to be watched closely.

(2,120 posts)If tRump vetoes the bill, you think McConnell could swing enough Repubs to a 2/3 override? Maybe.
Enough Repubs in the House to override a veto? Not so easy.
It's not entirely in McConnell's hands.
A veto would be over-ridden.
That would be a huge loss for Trump and a gamble he would not take, in my opinion.

(61,604 posts)The airline attendants' union has already promised to strike. I believe the pilots will do so as well, and the ATC. Planes won't fly.
I also think that TSA won't show up for work. Many of them won't be able to afford to get to work.
The previous shutdown has devastated the finances of thousands of people. They won't go through this again.
