... Ever since President William McKinleys administration which began in 1897 every single occupant of the White House, save for Trump, has had a dog at some point. Over the last century, the tradition of presidential dogs became so formalized that when Scott Walker, then the Republican governor of Wisconsin, ran for president in 2016, his allergy to dog dander was seen as a liability ...
... Theres evidence that Trump doesnt like dogs very much ... Donald was not a dog fan, Ivana Trump, his first wife, wrote in her 2017 memoir, Raising Trump. He did briefly live with her poodle, Chappy, after she told him, Its me and Chappy or no one, she wrote. But forced cohabitation didnt go too well: Whenever Trump got near her closet, Chappy would bark at him territorially."
... Trump has a long-standing habit of comparing people who he perceives as enemies to dogs, often while accusing them of behavior not normally associated with canines.
Former chief White House strategist Stephen K. Bannon was dumped like a dog by almost everyone. Mitt Romney choked like a dog during the 2012 presidential election. The New Hampshire Union Leader was kicked out of the ABC News debate like a dog in 2016. Conservative radio host Glenn Beck, retired Army Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, journalist David Gregory, conservative commentator Erick Erickson and the communications director for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) have all been fired like a dog ...

(3,396 posts)There is considerable evidence of that. Animals and babies, of course, are better judges of character than most adult human beings.

(33,343 posts)Somebody should send him one of those special cats that you can catch a glimpse of in alleys, or at the edge of wild lands. One of those things that look at a full-grown rat as a possible meal, whose hiss or even just a stare can make you wish for chainmail.
Just turn it loose and let it find its own place in the WH.

(2,074 posts)And the World Cat Federation decided long ago that no one is willing to own Trump. So Trump cannot have a cat in his life. He does not deserve that great honor.

(657 posts)Furthermore, cats avoid assholes like Trump like the plague. And they deserve loving homes. So I don't understand why you're pushing this.

Regardless, I cant help but notice just how often dogs seem to be on the presidents mind.
Last week, for example, shortly before his State of the Union address, Trump told a group of television anchors that Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) choked like a dog at a press conference a few days prior.
A few weeks prior, we learned of an anecdote from Cliff Sims book in which Trump told then-House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), in reference to the closing days of the 2016 election cycle, You were out there dying like a dog, Paul. Like a dog!
As regular readers know, its apparently one of this presidents favorite metaphors. Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal, for example, was fired like a dog. According to Trump, so were conservative media figures Erick Erickson and Glenn Beck.
Egypts Hosni Mubarak was dropped like a dog. Steve Bannon was dumped like a dog. Mitt Romney choked like a dog. Ted Cruz lies like a dog. Brent Bozell allegedly went to Trumps office begging for money like a dog......
For a guy who doesnt want a dog, he sure does seem focused on them.

(22,122 posts)this piece of crap so called president and throw him in jail. I'd make sure that a whole kennel of dogs are positioned right next to his cell 24x7. I'd make sure that the dogs have periodic breaks from this kind of duty, for I would want them to have fresh air and get outside occasionally for a walk and/or run. Otherwise, I want them to constantly bark nonstop when they are on guard duty.
Dogs are wonderful and have a sense about people that they like or not like. And they'll let you know about it too.
Mine are like that. Only a very few times that my dogs have gone into a barking frenzy when a stranger for some reason freaked them out (only 1 out of a 1000 strangers). My other half and I still couldn't figure out why, but I trust my dogs implicitly, that they know something's wrong about that particular stranger. Maybe the bad aura around some people is detectable by the dogs and thus, the dogs are warning everyone to stay away from that bad stranger. Good girls!!
