I made statements based on insufficient information, assumptions and ignorance. I researched information and talked to people and found my assumptions were not only wrong but hurtful, which I should have know. I realize now that so many of the people I know who send their children to Israel aren't dual citizens but just Jews who want to visit their home.
I'm sorry leftynyc for being what I hate most - an ignorant bigot. I'll try to be more sensitive and careful with all my thoughts and words here from now on.
Well, all except for that traitor trump.

(45,442 posts)I have coworkers whose parents live in Israel, so that's where they would go for their kids to visit grandparents.
Israel welcomes Jews from anywhere into their country. It's easy enough for them to become Israeli citizens if they want to. Or get tourist visas, some with multiple entry and long stays over several months.
Birthright offers free trips to many Jewish kids to travel to Israel if they want to see the holy land.
The liberal mind is more open to travel, moving, and having friends/family around the world. The conservative mind, not as much.

(1,220 posts)I appreciate the kind words but I really don't feel like I deserve them. If I'd done the right thing in the first place I wouldn't have had to apologize and I wouldn't have caused division here when we need unity more than ever.
I'm going to take some time off posting for a little while. I'll see you all soon.
Best.

(5 posts)I can only hope the moderators understand that I only set up a new account because mine is under review and I couldn't wait to respond to a truly heartfelt apology. You have touched my heart with it. Things got hot-it's a topic I feel deeply about and was having a bad day which is certainly no excuse on my part. I add my unreserved apology to you for my harsh words. If the moderators decide to ban me, this will be the last time I post but will be filled with regret because DU has been a home to me almost since its inception. I wish you peace and a blessed Shabbat Shalom.

(1,220 posts)I said I wouldn't post for a while but I checked in because I hoped you might reply. I was angry too and I retaliated. Now I've caused harm and I can only hope I can remedy what I've caused.
Please, DU mods, what I said was a lie and lefty only pointed that out. That isn't flaming, IMO. He didn't directly attack me, he attacked the lie I told. Exposing a lie isn't flaming, it's fighting for the TRUTH, which we have far too little of in our country these days already.
Mods, if it's possible, I'm rescinding my complaint based on the fact that I lied and lefty only did what was right by pointing out that fact.
Please reinstate lefty's account and don't hold him accountable for making an effort here to bring peace here.
I would never have joined DU if I knew it would lead to divisiveness and the suspension of a long time member who surely deserves better treatment than a hot head newcomer.
Thank you lefty for taking this risk to communicate. If it means anything, I'll be able to sleep tonight now.
I also wish you peace and a blessed Shabbat Shalom.

(1,220 posts)I tried to be non-gender specific but I know I put "he" in there more than once - just one more exhibit in the display of assumptions we make in a male dominated society.
I really hate what I've done here. I came here with a chip on my shoulder and I want to apologize to the entire DU community. If this all works out as I sincerely hope it does, I promise to do everything I can to do better.
If leftynyc is going to be bounced, I'm voluntarily out of here too.
I'm still waiting for a response from the Admins.

(1,220 posts)This is the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning and the last thing I think about at night.
We're living in an unusual time, to say the least. Everyone I know is on edge, always ready to explode at the slightest provocation. I hope the admins take that into consideration.
This is what it's like to live in an America gone berserk.

(48,955 posts)I thought FFR = flagged for review - which suggests a review (leading to releasing from the status or banning - or so I assumed what review would mean.) Your observation would suggest the term for the status might be misleading.
Just a bit taken aback from your observation. Not doubting it, just taken aback. Though I would add that in earlier iterations/moderation models it wasn't so rare - so I wouldn't state it as 17 years. More back to the time of moving to DU3 and the current moderating model.

(1,220 posts)leftynyc just replied to DU Mail I sent before I knew she was suspended. The DU moderation team has reinstated her posting privileges for which I would like to publicly thank them.
We have hope if we can stick together. I am sorry for being a divisive presence. I will do my best to do better if you will all give me another chance.
We have little choice. If we don't win together, we're ALL going to lose together.
Thanks for all the kind words and the criticism too. I don't deserve a community like this. I will try to do what I can to deserve to be a member from now on.
Best to you all.
Thank you once again, Skinner and the entire moderation team.
