Emergency will haunt Republicans come election season

DOUGLAS SCHOEN, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR — 02/17/19 10:00 AM EST

... It is illustrative of how discouragingly far American politics has fallen and will only hurt him politically. President Trump has been dangling the threat of using a national security declaration in front of Congress ever since early January, despite many top Republicans trying to convince him against doing this.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that he was for “avoiding the president feeling he should declare a national emergency.” But McConnell has now said that he will support the declaration ...

... a CNN poll this month reveals ... 66 percent of respondents said that a national emergency declaration is the wrong move for this issue ...

Enjoying oneself a the expense of a country that is divided. Smart.

How Republicans defend that will indeed be interesting. Democrats will be pouncing and with a fierceness unseen in election history.

The problem here is that people on DU think other people listen to the truth, make informed decisions, and act accordingly.

They don't. Right now his base is cheering him for being a badass take-no-prisoners kind of guy.

The fact that he just kicked the Constitution in the gut means nothing to them.

We NEED to get out the vote. There are MORE if us than them, but we're a bit lazy. They are motivated by hate and fear, those are powerful motivators so they ALWAYS vote.
