Arnold was held in contempt by both sides in the end, and the same will be true for Trump.

It frustrated George Washington he was being held down by politics...Benedict was someone who didn't comprehend "politics"...but was considered a square guy.

Bottom line, Arnold figured if the Continental Congress would push less capable people above proven leaders, he figured, the Revolution was doomed. And he was right, the best they were hoping for was a stale mate and negotiation, what he didn't consider, shit going down in Europe and France entering the war. That's what really saved our ass.

Of course, if the Revolution failed, he probably would have been cheered as a British hero, but that didn't happen. Plus being "a traitor" to the Continental Army made him toxic to any British Armed Forces...if he could betray his "friends"...what loyalty could they expect in the rest of the British Empire.

Bottom line, Arnold gambled and lost. But his is a complicated situation, had he waited it out, hell, he could have been a President we revere today. But again, a complicated situation.

Now we could go Nixonian.....but even Nixon had his shiny points, the EPA, Clean Water Act, etc.

Trump is a grifter/mob boss who obviously either intentionally or compromised to take office and fuck us over. Granted he hasn't got us into pointless wars...but the aftermath will certainly push future Presidents into one, whereas before, they would have a choice.

Trump's rant against, " no Russian Collusion" is.........

similar to, "I am not a crook"...It is likely to end the exact same way.

There is no question that Nixon broke the law and tried to cover it up. But he never sold out the country. Remember, even though he was a Republican and I disagreed with an awful lot he did, he tried to do his best for the country. He was a lawbreaker, yes. But he was NEVER a traitor!

Secret negotiations with the North Vietnamese.

"That's Treason", as Johnson put it.

he purposely sabotaged the Vietnam peace talks until after he was elected.

That is certainly treason.

I am all in favor of striking his name forever from the political history of the United States.

But in doing so, we would asphalt important lessons we cannot afford to endure learning twice.

I knew he was a traitor, he and McConnell, as soon as a) Trump spoke to the Russians in a speech asking for 'dirt' on Clinton, and b) when McConnell refused to work with Obama and Biden to present a united front against the Russian cyberattacks.

They are both traitors and you know, I'd be willing to bring back the same punishments we meted out to the war criminals at Nuremberg. Failing that, I guess, a cage for life. No more Big Macs or Buckets o' Chicken for old Donald.

GLOBAL WARMING.

Gun violence.
Global Warming.
Russia trying to destroy the West.
and on and on and on.

But sometimes my visceral anger at the asshole who is trying to destroy MY country boils over and I have to find some way to let it out. That's what these threads are all about.

Venting prevents build up of toxic emotions. And we are living through a nightmare.

I'm also glad you mentioned global warming. It's the elephant in the room. We need to figure out how to make addressing it more cathartic than vashing Trump World (which deserves the bashing!).
