Check this out next time he has one of his dog and pony shows.
We know that he lies virtually all of the time. But sometimes, he REALLY lies. Sometimes, particularly at his rallies, he lies to the point where he is trying to convince himself, as well as his sheep, that what he is saying is true.
In this situation, he starts in with the "believe me" crap. Only he doesn't just say "believe me". He says it almost angrily, while he makes that stupid white power sign or OK sign, whatever that thing is. He then says "believe me" with the emphasis on the first syllable, while making that sign with his hand and thrusting his hand forward toward the crowd as if he is trying to "push" his horseshit into the heads of his followers. You have probably already noticed this, but I think it is interesting.
Also, when he says the second syllable of "believe", he kind of says it with a hateful grimace, a sick grin.
BUHleeeeve me.
What an asshole.

(23,226 posts)..that Hillary should have said, in her opening remarks, "If [tRump] says 'Believe me,' DON'T believe him!"
If he says "No doubt about it," You can bet your ass there is PLENTY of doubt about it!

(1,706 posts)Jesus's children are flocking to the dark side in droves. Satan has destroyed all of us, if you believe in him. He has won the day.

(11,885 posts)Like "no collusion" when we already know that they did. He is psychologically trying to reinforce the lie he's promoting to these people , and until they start believing its the truth, then he exaggerates it even more to what he wants.

(15,238 posts)He has so many both verbal and non verbal. The one that I find the most disturbing is when his voice takes on a growl like quality of anger. When at rallies his syncopats respond with applause, this also is used to successfully cower corporate media. The only thing I despise more than Trump are his mindless followers.

(11 posts)Another thing he does after telling one of his whoppers is to say something like, "And a lot of other people/leaders feel the same way." Obviously, those others are never defined.

(47,430 posts)in my life and heard a lot of "Believe me","I swear to God", or "You ask so-and-so", but I've never seen anything quite like Donald Trump. With him, it appears to be a serious disorder and as the walls are closing in on him, it seems to be getting worse.

(3,501 posts)They amplify a person's good and bad traits
This is especially true with Trump. He is so out of his league in DC and the pressure is definitely amplifying his worst traits. At Trump Tower, he had so much control over his world.

(6,917 posts)He's speaking "in code" to those whose belief system is of an organizing, superior power. An impersonal God, A personal Savior.
All (like Atheism, too) are organizations who bind their flock together as "believers" in a specific article of faith, a belief sometimes not proven by material, scientific analysis.
They refer to themselves and their common bond with others as "believers".
Trump isn't exceedingly smart, he's just a greedy salesman and people have low sales resistance.
He's talking the language of his targets.

A HERETIC I AM
(24,368 posts)He's a con man, but the two aren't that far apart.
A decent salesman attempts to make an equitable trade. You're happy with the price you are paying for the good or service I am providing and I am happy with the amount you are paying for the value of what I am offering.
Trump only thinks in one way; If you are winning or getting what you want, even in a small way, then 'I' must be losing something.
He's a salesman and he has been VERY successful in selling his con to a significant portion of the American electorate.
This can not be denied.

(61,608 posts)He tells himself its sales, but he is actually a terrible sales man. He usually fails. He's a con man who is used to buying or bullying his way out of trouble when his cons collapse.

(11,631 posts)If someone feels the need to tell the listener explicitly to believe what they are saying then almost all of the time they are lying. I've got a great hand, you'd better fold... believe me. Whats worse is most adults can recognize this kind of juvenile tell subconsciously a mile away, unless they are fools or they REALLY want to believe the bullshit for some other reason.

(6,110 posts)It was in city of Everett, only 20 minutes drive from my house, just before the November election, so wife and I decided to check it out. It was free tickets to attend.
We left early, because we could not take it any more and to beat the traffic. Cops had closed off all road surrounding the Xfinity Arena for 4 blocks in all directions. So we had a several blocks long walk back to the car. I could not help but recall Hitler's rallies when the audience was in a state of hypnosis. No matter what lie Trump uttered, the audience cheered wildly. Scary experience. I do not recommend attending.
