Another superb Democratic presidential candidate.
Don Lemon facilitating.
This is a great watch.
Trump seems teenier and teenier with each one of these. The gulf between all of our candidates and he, on countless facets, is stunning. Not just trump, but all repub idiot politicians.
ALL of our candidates would be amazing, worthy of the office, and effective. Trump is not worthy of picking up dog turds from my back yard.

(12,344 posts)I was one of the few people who could work with him. I learned a lot and we were an effective team. I'm not sure I could work for Klobuchar, but as long as there are good people who can, that's fine with me.

(630 posts)Someone will have to move me off of supporting her at this point. Harris is a very close, super close second at this point, and i'm excited for Sherrod to get in, but I really like senator klobuchar.

Its a pretty exciting field, with a couple of potential exceptions.

(29,655 posts)I kinda agree....may-be two year trade, and I hate to say trade, but shoot, whats wrong with plumbers, heating and air contractors, electrical contractors, etc..... we as a country need them. Love the college kids, but shoot, the trades are dying. Free trade school would be great. JMHO.
AZ8theist
(5,459 posts)I say give the kids a choice:
2 free years of CC, or;
2 years community service in depressed areas in exchange for college, or
2 years military service in exchange for college;
2 years of trade school (I whole heartledly agree we need plumbers/electricians/etc
There are many possibilities. Let's explore them all. BECAUSE..
COAL JOBS ARE NOT COMING BACK. PERIOD.

(3,635 posts)rural populism, farms, etc - ugh, don't care for such shit... the problem w/America is our system gives too much weight to rural areas/states (which tend to be homogenous) over diverse, populous metro areas which are the base of the modern Dem party.
I've always liked Klobuchar, but someone like Kamala or Booker (or even Beto) is much more in tune with my worldview.
MontanaFarmer
(630 posts)But I don't agree. The democratic party is very effective in representing urban and suburban areas, as we understand the issues of importance to those folks. But here's a secret: we understand the issues in rural America too, we just do a poor job selling our vision out here. The electoral system, as you said, places too much premium on rural America. Rather than ignore it, we need to engage in rural areas as well as the rest of the country (50 state strategy). Rural dems need to do a better job too, of talking to our neighbors, but in my opinion it's the wrong approach to ignore rural America. Trump is going to provide us an opening, and senator klobuchar can help us take advantage.

(3,635 posts)What I guess I don't like, is the constant mythologizing of heartland and the white working class - as if folks who live in/around metro (urban/suburban) areas are un-American or alien to the American experience... or somehow not working class. Such a mindset is living in the past (when the Dem party was a rural populist party) and feeds into Trump's ethno-nationalist narratives (about only white workers being the 'true Americans') ... when the reality is that most Dem votes (look at any electoral map, see the dots of blue where cities are) come from metro areas... and most of the economic production and dynamism (as Hillary stated in her India speech) in the country is created by such areas. There really are not red and blue states, but red and blue areas where most metro areas (even in red states like TX) vote blue and most rural/exurban areas vote red (even in blue states like NY).
Surely, we should reach out to rural areas, but we can't do this in a way that feeds nationalist narratives, or otherizes urban America.
MontanaFarmer
(630 posts)And I appreciate the distinction. I won't pretend to believe that areas of the country like the one in which I live are going to see a resurgence in population, in dynamism. But i do still believe there is value in rural economic growth and stability. It provides some diversity in the economy, and a domestic food supply should we ever need one. I think we need to evolve our food production, and stay smart about how we're spending out here. And to your point, our party and our country is best served by doing the most good for the most people. So I agree, let's not "chase"the mythical farmer agrarian voter (I don't view a klobuchar candidacy that way), but let's neither forget them or demonize them either. Thank you for the thoughtful discussion!

(16,177 posts)We need a more united America that can move forward in a progressive, sensible direction.
Disempowering the vitriolic rightwing media, cleaning up elections, and breaking through the brainwashing that turned the GOP base into such haters.
Kamala, Booker, Briwn, Warren, Klobuchar... we have a royal flush. Im sure theres going to be a dozen Id be wildly enthusiastic about.
