Privilege:

While being free on a "signature bond" that requires no cash outlay ... at the same time hundreds of thousands of people (mostly poor and/or black and brown) are locked up in jail awaiting trial because they can't afford cash bail.

When I was studying for the bar, one of the instructors told us, "If you get a question you don't know the answer to, just become the monarch of your own jurisdiction and create some new law.""

Apparently, Stone's lawyers got the same advice and thought it applied to real courts, not just the bar exam.

He will answer for his crimes tomorrow. There are bigger implications that govern Stone's arrest than how it plays as a measurement of privilege. Of course he plays the privilege card. But don't make him more privileged by creating a martyr of him in the media as he wishes.

Being perp-walked to jail immediately on TV is exactly what he wanted, giving it to him is not the best way to respond to his propaganda meme.

Sure, he deserves immediate jailing. But better to win the war of public opinion with measured actions than to play to his timing. If he wants immediate jailing, he will just have to wait a day LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

That's how to combat privilege.

That being that it matters one iota how the judge or the media deal with this man.

Lock him up? quick messaging about how hes a martyr.
Fail to respond? quick messaging about how they have nothing on him, or they would have locked him up.

Either way, the response is ready to go, and the believers will buy it and run with it.

"Roger Stone is just another asshole and I'm busy today. Bring him in tomorrow on my schedule and I'll deal with him just like any other moron. I'm not going to be provoked to respond in anger."

That's how to defeat privilege for Roger Stone---treat him like anybody else. Don't give him the attention he is trying to create for his followers.

Yesterday, his moron followers were mostly silent. All they could do is sit on their hands. Judge Jackson, essentially, ordered them to do that.

Context is important.

Cohen is still cooperating with various investigations and he's scheduled to testify before Congress. Those are called mitigating factors, I believe. This is why the court has granted his lawyers' request for an extension.

Cohen is going to jail. I doubt he feels any privilege. I suspect he's pretty nervous and scared.

There's no need for it. If you are a threat to your community you should be allowed to just do no bail but attach no cash terms to it. A lot of people don't have the money for the bail and you can be stuck in jail even though you could be innocent.

Wow.

You do realize that someone as media savvy and publicity obsessed as Stone doesn't just accidentally post random photos without any knowledge of or interest in what the backdrop is. He does everything with a purpose. What better way to send the message he wants to send while then claiming "Who, me? How was I to know that there were CROSSHAIRS in the BACKGROUND?!"

Obviously, given the number of people who not only believe but are repeating that lame excuse, it's at least partially effective. But I have a feeling the judge isn't going to buy it as easily as some members of the public did.

Oh, and the judge didn't "cut him loose." He was already "loose." She ordered him to appear tomorrow.

The Judge that let him remain loose is the Judge in the picture.
She's a POTUS Obama appointee....and called for a Thursday hearing.

Why would an Obama appointed Judge support "privilege"?
I maintain the tweet wasn't accurate...the Judge was not "in" the cross hairs.
She knows she wasn't in "the cross hairs"

Despicable....absolutely. Bail revocable...the Judge didn't seem to think so so far.

I hope they reopen Alcatraz for Stone and all his associates, especially the Dumpster clan.....bottom line is...the tweet wasn't accurate and I don't see Judge Amy Jackson considering "privilege".
Do you...honestly?

It is the site of many First Nations' ceremonies. The island really belongs to them. Years ago, some one sprayed the walls with: THIS IS INDIAN COUNTRY.

On Indigenous Peoples' Day, before dawn, boats shuttle people out to the island. We stage at the pier and walk up together, drums in synch with our heart beats, often in complete silence, other times chanting as we go. A huge fire is burning by the time we arrive. On top of the plateau, we all assemble, join hands and form a huge circle. Elders are seated in a place of respect.

Shortly before the sun comes up, leaders walk around the circle, sage bundles in hand, purifying the circle before we begin.

We wait in silence as the sun begins to peak over the fog which envelopes the island. The mist in the air settles on my hair and face. The sound of the birds keening over head. The smell of the salt spray in the air, and the tang on my lips. I am transformed.

The ceremony begins. Elders speak in their languages. Prayers. Chants. Poems. We all become one with the moment. It is deeply, deeply spiritually-moving.

An hour passes after the sun comes up, the gathering is over. We all walk back down to the pier to wait for the shuttle boats to take us back to the mainland. We are renewed. Cleansed. Uplifted.

I lived in SF for almost a decade and never missed The Indigenous Peoples' Day Ceremony. It meant too much to me to abstain. And my memories of those celebrations are sacred to me.

I would NEVER want the likes of Roger "Rartfucker" Stone to ever desecrate the soil on that island with his loathsome presence.
