Indiana waitress in viral video addresses customer who wrote gay slur on receipt

The response of a waitress in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to a gay slur that was written on a receipt has gone viral.

Michele Crider said she was working a lunch shift on Tuesday at the Dash-In restaurant in Fort Wayne, where she has worked for almost a year, when she was assigned a table occupied by two men "who were not that nice."

Eight years in the service industry have taught her to recognize when customers seem to want their space, she told NBC News in a phone interview Thursday. That seemed to be the case with the two men at this table.

But when Crider, who is gay, went to pick up the check after the men left, she found: "I don't tip fags," written on it.

Beyond having gay friends, I really don't have any particular involvement with the issue, but some people seem to be obsessed over it.
It must really suck to be like that.

My wife and I were once in a restaurant in Provincetown, MA, where just about all waiters in the summer who aren't Bulgarian are gay. Some tourist family from Republicanville, USA, came in, maybe off a cruise ship, sat down at a table, and then noted, to their horror, that all the waiters were gay. They left without ordering, whereupon the waiters, to the delight of everyone in the place, gay and straight, started putting on a show, imitating the horrified couple in an exaggerated manner, acting if they had suddenly stumbled upon a den of vampires. It would have been worth the price of brunch even if the food had sucked (it was great, as always).
