Trump admin cuts off Planned Parenthood from $286 million in federal funding

The Trump administration issued a rule Friday barring Planned Parenthood and other groups that offer abortions or abortion referrals from participating in the $286 million federal family planning program, reports the Washington Post.

What they're saying: Per the Post, critics of the mandate say it indirectly defunds Planned Parenthood, which provides general health care and STD treatment in addition to abortion services. The Title X program mostly serves low-income women. Supporters of the rule and antiabortion groups, like the the Susan B. Anthony List, say it will "disentangle taxpayers" from Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood sued the Trump administration Wednesday in an attempt to block plans to change the Title X family planning grant program, the AP reports. The National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association and ACLU also sued the administration.

The argument: In February, the administration changed guidance on priorities for the next round of grants that will come from the program, putting a new emphasis on abstinence and “natural family planning” without mentioning contraception, per NPR. Planned Parenthood argues contraception was the whole point of the program and that the administration is violating the purpose of the law while backing a politically-driven focus on abstinence.

8. Apparently he can. Or at least, as it works its way up to the SCOTUS, we will find out if he can.

The evil GOP has been working in this ever since they decided they could capture votes by catering to the stupidest of the Evangelicals.

Just as Nixon decided on the Southern Strategy to capture the racist votes.

That's all this is: a promise made to unbelievably stupid people is going to be fulfilled at last, and all so GOP politicians can get the votes to serve their real constituents: the richest and most powerful men on the planet.

So none of their services to help pregnant women will be impacted.

But they do use it for many important things, such education and free condoms. Hopefully they can find replacement funding until a new President take offie.
