The 1st time I went into an Asian massage parlor where prostitution was suspected.

I was a Private Investigator following a man who's wife had good reason to believe that he was unfaithful.

He pulled into a parking lot of a strip mall on Buford Highway in Atlanta. This area is home to hundreds or thousands of international businesses and neighborhoods. Many cities have a Chinatown, Vietnamese, or a Korean area of town. This part of Atlanta has every ethnic business along one highway, Buford Highway.

I don't recall the name, but there are several dozen in a few miles, so that's beside the point. The man I was now following in vehicular surveillance, pulled in and quickly walked in. I was able to only get a few seconds of video. My boss was notified and told me that he wanted to "know for sure" if it was one of "those kind of places".

I walked in the front door to a small reception area. My subject was no longer here. An older Asian woman asked me how she could help me. A told her I was looking to buy a gift certificate for my wife to the salon. The name of the parlor had "salon" in it, and it was the first thing I thought to say. She asked again, seemingly not understanding what I had said. Just then a large (think 6' and 300lb) stepped from behind a curtain behind the reception area. He immediately showed me the door without allowing me to say another word.

As I walked back to my car, another large Asian man exited the store and a third man got out of a car next to the spa. They stood there motionless as I quickly drove away....for a few minutes.

I came back a few minutes later and parked next-door, where I could still see the front of the sex shop. My subject left an hour after arriving.

I followed him to two more massage parlors that weekend. I have followed many more guys to strip mall massage parlors and have even tried to snoop around and see how far I could go without going too far, but that first time was eye-opening. There was clearly a madam who ran the face of the business, multiple security guards in place, and numerous girls, whom were driven away in two's by the thick-necked man in the vehicle in the parking lot.

It's a huuuuge problem in Atlanta and the affluent white burbs surrounding it. I hope this Kraft arrest spurs change or at least awareness.

I'm convinced they're allowed to continue because the strip mall developers know they'll take any vacant unit.

Are they working there by choice, or are they being forced to do this? If women are being brought in against their will, it's trafficking and it should be handled by federal immigration authorities. Not that the women belong in jail, but it's possible they don't even want to be there at all.

I'd guess they were not of their own free will. This wasn't a job where they punched the time clock and went to Bennigans to complain about their day with their buddies. They were tended to and controlled.

And yes, I followed them to their house which was less than a mile away, and gave the address to my friend who was a cop in the next county, who passed it along to the local cops.

But they're usually tricked into a deal. They'll come up with money and be told they will help them get into the country and find a job, maybe even restaurant work. Then they'll be forced into prostitution to pay off their "debt". Most are held by force or by threat.

I rarely know the denouement of my investigations. I just noted what it appears to be, what the reception was, why there was security, ....

I don't know how the client used the product I provided.

He complained to me that he COULD NOT find any massage parlors that JUST GAVE A MASSAGE. He tried over and over again, even trying many that said in essence in their signage that there was NO HAPPY ENDING: and at every single one he went to, inevitably he was propositioned either by the boss (madam?) or the therapist (sex worker?) Every single one.

He finally found a very upscale day spa establishment that had a straight massage where he could, to use a word, get some relief for his back...

Massage parlor busted after hundreds of condoms clog pipes

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A husband and wife accused of running a prostitution ring posing as a massage parlor in northwest Austin were revealed after hundreds of condoms clogged part of their sewage system.

On Feb. 7, a detective was assigned to investigate Jade Massage Therapy, at 11416 N. Farm to Market 620 -- near Anderson Mill Road -- after getting a tip from the property's management company about possible prostitution at the massage parlor. It was the second such tip the Austin Police Department had received in the last three months.

The company said they had recently taken over the property and became aware of the problem when an industrial waste disposal unit connecting the property to the city sewer became clogged and destroyed by the condoms, according to a police affidavit.
