Lets see where DU intersects the next biggest group of English-speaking progressives the British Labour Party.
Brexit basically hasnt been stopped, even though a majority of the British want it stopped, because Corbyn is leading the Labour Party and he hates the EU.
I included a poll. Below in the first reply Ill give you my opinion.

(6,916 posts)When Corbyn was first elected I thought Hes dragging the conversation left, thats good
But as I have watched Brexit and now realize that Corbyn believes bankers and corporations run the EU, and he wants to build a socialist/communist country in England so much hell blow up the country with a hard Brexit. Wow.
As an American I think having European democracies strong and allied in the EU is a good thing for us. Weakening the EU gives more power to autocrats and enemies of democracy.

(2,347 posts)He's a good campaigner I'm told by some pro-Labour folks so that's how he got where he is.
But he's always been anti-EU. The biggest problem with this is the Irish border. If you leave the EU and aren't in a customs union, that border becomes a "hard" border again, where both people and goods moving across it have to stop before being allowed to go to the other side.
For the US, it means the country we've been closest to in Europe will have far less influence within it.
And of course Corbyn is anti-NATO too.
Useless when it comes to opposing Brexit, but very useful for the Kremlin. Whether that's by accident or design doesn't matter; the practical effect is the same.

(6,916 posts)Good news is the Labour MPs are FINALLY forcing Corbyn to back a re-vote.

(14,737 posts)My own local MP was one of those who have quit Labour. The disastrous project to leave the EU is a part of that, as is Labour's problem with anti-Semitism and the constant internal infighting.

(29,322 posts)I like the Labour Party supporters they seem to be on the same side of progressives. I follow Corbyn too and seem to agree with what little I've seen from him. I don't know if I lived in UK I would feel the same way but I don't agree 100% with any politician. Someone replied to me saying he's even more left than Sanders.
Edit they seem to hate Tories more than Corbyn.

(14,737 posts)I am totally understand why he got elected in the first place, but he has not been any good as leader of the opposition. He's much too set in his ways to adapt to the role he has been elected to by Labour members. He's failed to hold the government to account on the biggest issues and has allowed internal infighting and anti-Semitism to fester. The problem with Corbyn is not that he is too "left wing". It's much more basic than that.
But he has almost cultish levels of support from certain sections of the left. As the 2016 leadership election showed, it is virtually impossible to get rid of him at the present time. The result is that MP's are starting to leave the party and this will make it much harder for Labour to get elected and implement socialism.
