And congrats to Spike Lee for his first Oscar - for Best Adapted Screenplay (BlacKkKlansman).

(6,831 posts)He should have won the Oscar for "Malcolm X." It was brilliant. So was Denzel. And he should have won Best Actor for his portrayal. I am old enough to have seen Malcolm X in real time. He was an electrifying speaker. His "The Ballot or The Bullet" speech still makes me sit up straight up. Denzel had his speech patterns, his cadence, his patois DOWN COLD. If you closed your eyes . . .
Congratulations Spike. It's well-deserved.

Haggis for Breakfast
(6,831 posts)and watch/listen to his "The Ballot or The Bullet" speech. BRILLIANT. Even though it's been over 50 years since he delivered it (in Chicago) it is STILL as relevant today as it was then.
I promise you, you'll NOT be disappointed.
