I wake up to Trump's tweets about Cohen and then the lies surrounding giving Kushner Security Clearance. Everyday we get drawn further and further into the cesspool of Trump. This has got to stop. It's got to be stopped. Mueller and the House Dem Investigations has to get to the bottom of all this corruption and put a stop to it once and for all.

(53,776 posts)flat out lying that her and Kushner's security clearances went through the proper channels, She claimed there were no issues with the clearances and trump said he stayed out of it.
The reason the videos were run is because of the NYT story that came out yesterday that trump ordered Kelly to issue the clearance to Kushner after intel declined his clearance.
They are all a pack of lying grifters.

(53,776 posts)Kelly, to his credit, and I am no fan of his, filed a contemporaneous memo of trump's order so that there is a record of him being ordered to issue the clearance.

I'm sure it was tough decision, but in his mind he was probably thinking that leaving would open the door to someone totally nuts. But, I don't understand how the Rs in Congress are getting a pass. Not here, but in general. There should be enormous pressure on them to do their jobs. They've abandoned their oath of office, turned their backs on our coequal government, and surrendered all independence and oversight.
There's no way in hell this man and his cabal should still be in office.
That is an amazing photoshop job!

Imagine that. That was his last thought, disappointed because he wouldn't get to see it.

(17,984 posts)I had a woman tell me this morning that her Father, a staunch Democrat lived long enough to see Barack Obama become President.
I read in the AAA magazine they are celebrating the 75th Anniversary of DDay and it would probably be the last time as they are 95, 96 years old.
All I could think of was we have come to this from that Celebration.

(5,810 posts)On their TVs and laptops. Not enough people care to even contact their congressmen to register a complaint. A few will. Most will not. It is like weve almost lost the will to fight. I dont refer to the citizens of DU. Many here are actively involved in fighting back. But the vast majority are just not watching or dont think their speaking up will matter. It is as if theyve already thrown in the towel.
People should be marching in the streets coast to coast. North, south, east and west. In the big cities and tiny towns. But there is mostly silence. It is heartbreaking to see this happen. I believe that tRump will be removed or may even die from the stress of the pressures from Putin and others on him. But by then the damage will be massive and will not be repaired before I go into that gentle night myself. I just wonder when it will occur to the masses that they do have a voice. Will they ever wake up?
If we all descended on DC today would it even matter? Have we waited until too late?
Sorry for the down tone but it just feels like they are not moving fast enough to save us. And all I can ask is why?

(36,462 posts)Voting is only our first duty as citizens. Calling & telling our MOCs what we want is the second part. You can call all of your MOCs every day & it only takes a few minutes. You don't drive or fly anywhere.
What to do when you call your MOC: Always be courteous. No swearing. If you get vmail, you don't get a lot of time for a message, so keep it short & sweet. Leave your name & zip code at the end.
Also, don't just call your own MOCs. When Cory Gardner, my senator, spoke out against the shutdown, I called some key GOP senators & asked them to stand with Senator Gardner against the shutdown.
It probably doesn't matter that I do it, but if all of us did it...
The last time we filled their boxes to overflowing was the financial crisis of 2008. Are we there yet?
on edit: We should start a campaign called MOC Monday.

(15,536 posts)What about the millions of people who marched all across America in the various women's marches? It got tremendous press and people of all ages marched. We still ended up with Trump not gone. Think about the young people and how in vast numbers they marched against gun violence.
Yes, I do believe that all of that helped somewhat, but we were and are powerless against an evil foreign entity like Russia who hijacked our elections and nothing has been done about it yet.
I honestly have no answers any longer. I have Trump fatigue. I wonder sometimes if emails and phone calls even get looked at by the person we're addressing. I'm fortunate to live in a state that has two Democratic Senators, but my district was gerrymandered and went from a Dem rep to a GOP rep because of it.

(10,252 posts)Trump and the Republican sewer is not going to get any better. We can't afford to freak out and lose focus. We can't afford to get discouraged. All of us sane, moral, normal people, which is the vast majority of regular Americans, want the Trump degenerate chaos to stop yesterday. But it is going to drag out some more, a lot more. And there is nothing that we can do to make the remedy happen faster -- except elect more Dems in 2020. We have to take the Senate. That is our task.
I am committed to not letting the Trump filth contaminate my mind with all his stupid distractions and daily outrages. I am committed to maintaining a cheerful attitude and encouraging people, who are sick to death of Trump to stay strong and focused on electing Dems.
The House Dems are doing their oversight job and trying to make up the 2 years of lost time that the last Republican House failed to do. They started out behind the 8 ball, and are doing their best to catch up. Mueller is doing his job to dot every I and cross every T. Just so, we must do our job to remain calm and focused.

I don't see it happening unless a major change, movement, catastrophe outside of politics brings this country to its knees, shakes us to the core, something that will break the strangle hold of unfettered capitalism, return us to a true Democracy.

(15,536 posts)our so-called "leader" of the time told us to go shopping. It did nothing to break the strangle hold on unfettered capitalism. (373 posts)So we have an illegitimate president who was helped in his narrow election by a foreign adversary in an attack on the United States. His cult followers, who have also been compromised and betray their oaths to protect and defend every day, won't vote impeachment in the Senate. That is the limit of the Constitution? That's it?
Why is a "memo" from DOJ that a sitting president cannot be indicted binding? Because the Constitutional remedy is impeachment? That's really a stretch. The Constitution doesn't preclude indictment.
Meanwhile, the investigations go on (actually just starting in the House). Nothing will be done before 2020. This human wrecking ball of a President is causing damage every day. Every damn day.
I hope we survive this. If we do, there is much that has to be done to ensure this never happens again. Constitutional Amendments if necessary. Maybe modernize the definition of "treason". Why does the U.S. have to be in a declared war? When the Russians attacked our cyberspace, wasn't this an act of war?
Sheesh.

And frankly, I dont much care who it is at this point. All I know is the lesson I HOPE we all learned in 2016 and 2018. When we divided into camps and fought with each other (2016), we got truomp. When we focused and got in lockstep together for ONE goal, we flipped the House of Reps.
Which approach works for YOU?
One approach not only didnt work or didnt help, and the other approach did work and rather mightily, too!
I ask again, in earnest (as EACH of us should): which approach works for YOU?

(22,794 posts)I suggest anyone who feels this way take a deep breath and spend less time watching the news about Trump. If you haven't figured out by now the Trump is a hot mess of criminal fraudulence without an iota of goodness or human decency, then it's time to take a break for the sake of your own sanity. No one can stay outraged 24 hours a day and stay sane and healthy. I'm not suggesting normalizing his behavior or going totally numb. I'm suggesting that if you haven't developed coping mechanisms to protect your mental health from this unceasing onslaught of madness, then it is time to lower the volume and take up meditation, yoga. tai chi or some other mindful practices that will relieve stress and calm the mind.
