Sorry to do this, but I get stuck on these things sometimes. I recently made the mistake of journeying over to the wasteland called Facebook to see what my friends were up to. I didn't think about all the right wing nut jobbery I would come across considering the inclinations of some of the people in my FB "friends". Anyway, someone posted something accusing President Obama of "blowing" the chance to take out Abu Bakr-Al Baghdadi. Call me silly, but these things dig at me if I can't find the facts to debunk them. Apparently the source for this drivel is a former drone pilot named Brett Velicovich who wrote a book called Drone Warrior where he argues how awesome drone strikes are and how any ethical concern about them is just ridiculous, no seriously. However, I can't find any article rebuking or even discussing his claim about President Obama. Getting the facts really helps my peace of mind. Has anyone heard of this guy?

(17,913 posts)Much of what he saw on his screens and the mission details he was privy to while serving is classified. Secondly, there's a probability that Baghdadi may have been in a certain place at a certain time. Very rarely a certainty. Thirdly, what was the context? We're there significant numbers of non combatants in the area? What were the other risk factors or potential collateral damage that might have outweighed any positives? Fourthly, taking out one individual, no matter how senior, rarely stops a movement. It creates a temporary vacuum that nature abhors. Someone will fill it. Someone possibly even worse than Baghdadi. Trying to predict what would have happened from woulda, shoulda, coulda is foolish on its face.

They do not respond to reason or logic - hell, they do not even recognize facts and reality. What makes you think you will be able to make any headway penetrating the cult mind of every conjob out there?
Best to simply work to remove them and any influence they have over our lives.
