(43,182 posts)You usually don't hear of people dying of strokes at 52, especially someone who didn't seem to in bad shape like Perry.

(102,275 posts)Genetic risk must have been pretty overwhelming.
RIP Mr. Perry. I never really watched your shows, but know that you were quite appreciated as an actor.

(6,395 posts)...in her last year of high school. My Dad graduated from the same high school a couple years earlier.
Doctors told my Father to make preparations. It's a miracle she lived, with that said, her "mind" has never been the same, she see's people on TV and thinks she went to school with them.
Her sister had a stroke in her 50's and their first cousin died from one...and he was wealthy as fuck. I went to the doctor the day after I noticed irregular heart beat...and was diagnosed with AFIB. Apparently this is a family curse...difference is, I'm the first to do something about it.

(4,238 posts)My husband is also in his early 50s and suffered a stroke. Fortunately, it was a minor one and he made a quick and full recovery. Still, it shook us terribly; a man who is in very good health, exercises, eats well, with no family history of strokes became a victim of one. It scares the shit out of you, so I can only imagine how painful this is for his family.

(7,490 posts)Was it ischemic? Did they administer tPa (alteplase)?
eissa
(4,238 posts)I dont recall any alteplase. They put him on blood thinners right away and almost immediately his symptoms began to reverse. They also gave him statins, which Im not particularly happy about as they have their own side effects.

(63,221 posts)I didn't really know much about him, but just that he seemed too young and healthy to die like this. It just feels kind of shocking.
Condolences to his family and friends. RIP, Luke.

(32,639 posts)This recent publicity photo is from his hit series "Riverdale" that's finishing up its 3rd year. The news of his death is so fresh that IMDB hasn't mentioned it yet. I guess I'll always remember Luke from "Beverly Hills 90210" but he's had many fine performances and TV series over the years. Condolences to his family.

(32,639 posts)Luke Perry was only scheduled for a few guest shots. He wasn't going to be a regular on the reboot show. I guess they can still go ahead and maybe do a memorial episode in his honor.

(7,490 posts)Face-lips droop, mouth open, hard to smile
Arms-difficult to raise one or both hands
Speech-slurred, incoherent or unable to speak
Time-if you have any of those symptoms, call 911 immediately!
A few hours makes all the difference, after 3-4 hours the chances of recovery can plummet.

(3,728 posts)I am the same age. Not long ago my blood pressure measured alarmingly high. Did not decrease even with the initial medication, and progressively higher dosages. finally found a different medication which has got it down near the normal range.
Could have been me having a fatal stroke had I not caught it in time. Makes me wonder if Luke was monitoring his blood pressure and vitals.

(9,199 posts)texted me Sunday to tell me that her daughter-in-law, aged 40, was in the hospital in San Antonio with a stroke.
The family had been on a camp out with their church group near Bandera when she suddenly couldn't feel or move on one side.
She is still in ICU, although they've got her blood pressure down from 221/120 with medications.
Isn't that something? They had just returned from a week at Snowmass.
I am really glad they were't on top of a rural mountain a thousand miles away when this happened.
Now my friend is taking care of three young grandkids until things get sorted out.
40 years old!

I wonder if Perry had a bleed. They can be much more devastating.

(9,199 posts)daughter-in-law had. They finally said "stroke" in front of her and she is really bummed out now.
