Trump on brink of GOP rebellion over emergency declaration

President Trump is facing a potential revolt among Senate Republicans over his decision to declare a national emergency to construct the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Sen. Rand Paul's (R-Ky.) public announcement over the weekend that he will oppose Trump's declaration ensures a resolution blocking it will be approved by the Senate after already passing the House - unless Senate Republicans can find some kind of last-minute way out of the showdown.
Republicans have been hunting for a way out of a fight over the declaration that has badly fractured the caucus, but Paul's decision underscores the difficulty leadership faces in finding a successful exit strategy.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), who is expected to oppose a resolution of disapproval, floated that Trump could be rethinking his decision given the likelihood that he'll have to use his first veto.

Problem is not enough of them are rebelling.

I guess the ones who are compromised, in one way or another, are still covering their own butts, and kissing trumps! The took an oath to protect the country but don't seem to be living up to that oath.

caucuses. They understand the implication for any future democratic president. McConnel and McCarthy both need to shield their members from trump's rath, but they may not have any choice.

flip flops. He always comes charging out of the gate, snorting in self righteous indignation as the lone Republican who stands against his fellows. His grandstanding earns him lots of press attention which he converts into money making fundraising appeals to his constituents.

Then, at the last moment, Paul will reluctantly announce his change of heart and vote the straight Republican party line.

Raise your hand (sheepishly) if this is a startling revelation... Yeah?

Give me a veto proof majority, then we will have ourselves a rebellion!

7. One step at a time. First, let's get enough GOP defectors to pass the bill.

And then worry about overcoming a possible veto.

Make those guys vote twice for usurping congressional powers and hammer them with it come election time.
