Washington has become the 22nd state to file suit to block the Trump's abortion gag rule
Washington has become the 22nd state to file a federal court suit to block the Trump administration's abortion "gag rule", with Attorney General Bob Ferguson arguing that it would leave 21 of the state's 39 counties with no family planning services for low-income women.
The state's suit was filed in Yakima, with the argument that 11 Eastern Washington counties including the populous Spokane and Yakima counties would be left without a Title X health care provider.
"President Trump is illegally inserting ideological politics between a woman and her doctor by gagging providers," Ferguson said in a statement.
Ferguson had promised to sue as soon as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published the rule. It is scheduled to take effect on May 3.
Twenty states including New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia jointly sued HHS on Monday. California filed a separate suit, as has Washington.
